Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
The field of dentistry is continually evolving, presenting both novel opportunities and new challenges. The rise in non-communicable diseases, such as diabetes and cardiovascular diseases, represents a major challenge. Managing patients with complex medical histories necessitates a more integrated approach to care. Similarly, the growing awareness of the link between oral health and overall health highlights the importance of patient education and the crucial role of clinicians in this education.
Additionally, access to dental care remains a critical issue, particularly in underserved and rural communities. Addressing this challenge requires policy changes, increased funding for public health programs, and innovative approaches to making dental care more accessible and affordable. Another significant challeng for dentists is the integration of advanced technologies, such as artificial intelligence (AI) and digital dentistry. These technologoes promise to enhance diagnostic accuracy and treatment planning but require significant investment and training.
Additionally, regenerative dentistry represents a groundbreaking frontier in dental science, focusing on the repair and regrowth of damaged or lost tissues using biological approaches. Despite significant advancements in stem cell research, tissue engineering, and biomaterials, regenerative dentistry faces challenges in relation to mimicking the natural architecture and functionality of dental tissues. Regulatory and ethical considerations, along with the translation of laboratory successes into effective and affordable treatments, represent ongoing challenges.
In conclusion, the future of dentistry and oral health is being shaped by technological advancements, novel therapeutics, systemic health links, access to care, and the need for patient education. Addressing these challenges requires a multifaceted approach, continuous learning, and adaptability among dental professionals.
The scope of this Special Issue encompasses recent advances in health and technology and their relationship with the field of dentistry.
