Cyber-Physical Systems Security: Challenges and Approaches

Dear Colleagues,

Cyber-Physical Systems (CPSs) are an integral part of modern technology, serving as key components of smart cities, Industry 4.0, transportation, medicine, and critical infrastructure. These systems integrate digital technologies with physical processes, enabling remote management and monitoring. While this integration offers numerous benefits, it also introduces new risks. As the boundaries between the physical and digital worlds become increasingly blurred, the importance of security in these complex systems—which, if breached, could cause unprecedented damage—is growing. The Special Issue “Cyber–Physical Systems Security: Challenges and Approaches” addresses the pressing need for the industry to understand threats and implement effective protection methods. Our goal is to provide readers with comprehensive knowledge and inspiration to design innovative solutions that address today’s challenges and ensure the safe advancement of this dynamic field. We invite experts and researchers to submit cutting-edge research papers on various aspects of Cyber–Physical Systems, including topics such as: data security and privacy; security by design; incident management; attack detection and prevention; network segmentation TCP/IP ports and protocols; network monitoring and packet analysis; firewall ruleset CERTs (Computer Emergency Response Teams); host analysis and forensics; encrypted communication; real-time monitoring; AI-assisted protection; and anti-ransomware software.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. Applied Sciences is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
