Special Issue Information

The emergent development of innovative micro- and nanotools for biomedical applications represents a multidisciplinary combination of technologies, such as biotechnology, medicine, optics, electronics, mechanics, and micro/nanotechnologies, among others. These advanced fields enable a noninvasive and dynamic analysis of molecular and cellular biomarkers and therefore hold great potential for the diagnosis, prognosis, monitoring, and disease progress and treatment efficacy by increasing the disease mechanism understanding and the identification of therapeutic targets for drug development. Furthermore, developing and applying the state-of-the-art of microfluidic technologies’ unmet challenges in diseases (for example, in cancer) can expand the horizons of not only fundamental biology but also the management of disease and patient care.

In this regard, this Special Issue on “Microfluidic Tools for Noninvasive Biomedical Applications” seeks to gather the opportunities, challenges, prospects, and breakthroughs in this multidisciplinary field, aiming toward an end-use for these technologies. Therefore, we invite research groups from diverse areas to submit original manuscript for this Special Issue related to drug screening, liquid biopsy, blood analysis, cancer cell isolation, molecular diagnostics, tumor biology, and high-throughput screening for therapeutics. Full papers, short communications, reviews, and clinical studies using microfluidic devices for liquid biopsy are welcome.
