Young Investigator Award

We are pleased to announce that the winner of the Biomolecules 2023 Young Investigator Award is Dr. Kevin McHugh.
Dr. Kevin McHugh is an Assistant Professor of Bioengineering and a CPRIT Scholar in Cancer Research at Rice University. Dr. McHugh’s research interests are in engineering natural and synthetic materials that are applied to prevent, diagnose, and treat various diseases. As a representative example, his research lab has developed peptides that engage the immune system by binding to toll-like receptors, activating T cells, and binding to integrins that have applications in cancer and infectious diseases. Dr. Kevin McHugh received his PhD in 2014 and has an outstanding publication record, comprising seven patents and about 50 publications in peer-reviewed international journals, which include Science, Science Translational Medicine, Nature Reviews Drug Discovery, Advanced Materials, Nano Today, and Advanced Drug Delivery Reviews. Since joining Rice University in 2019, Dr. McHugh has secured grants of around USD 4 million from multiple funding agencies as a PI. These are outstanding accomplishments in today’s competitive environment. Please join us in congratulating Dr. Kevin McHugh for his outstanding achievements.
As the awardee, Dr. Kevin McHugh will receive an honorarium of CHF 2000, an offer to publish a paper free of charge before 31 December 2024 in Biomolecules after peer review, and an electronic certificate.
