Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Reinforced concrete structures are used worldwide due to their advantages. Nevertheless, the behavior of concrete is diverse and complex. Thus, performance evaluations for reinforced concrete structures have been one of the focuses of researchers. Performance evaluations are the foundation of performance-based designs that can overcome the limitations of force-based design methods used for addressing the inelastic behavior and cyclic loading effects in reinforced concrete structures. However, advances in materials science and the expansion of application scenarios for reinforced concrete structures have created new challenges for their performance evaluation. On one hand, new materials have been employed to strengthen the concrete, such as fibers, nano-materials, and fiber-reinforced polymer (FRP), etc. On the other hand, besides the normal service load, reinforced concrete structures may be constructed in harsh environments (e.g., off-shore engineering or marine structures) or be subjected to some extreme loading, such as high temperatures due to fires, dynamic loading induced by an explosion or vehicle impact, and cyclic loading due to seismic activity, as well as issues caused by other natural disasters. Certainly, the development of monitoring approaches and test methods using big data also contribute to the advancement of technology for performance evaluations.

This Special Issue aims to gather and discuss the development of reinforced concrete structure performance evaluation. Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:

  • Theoretical basis and the concepts of the performance evaluation of reinforced concrete;
  • New performance evaluation methods for reinforced concrete;
  • Performance evaluation of new materials used to reinforce concrete;
  • Performance evaluations for structures in complex environment;
  • Performance evaluations for structures subjected to extreme loadings;
  • The application of the big data method to performance evaluations.
