Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

This Special Issue is the second edition of the Special Issue “Glycosylation in Cancer—Biomarkers and Targeted Therapies,” which has published 12 papers.

Glycans attached to proteins forming glycoproteins and proteoglycans, as well as to lipids on the cell surface, are major building blocks of life essential for cell functions and virtually every biological process. They are present extracellularly on the cell surface and even intracellularly, playing major roles in all the established cancer hallmarks and holding huge potential for cancer research. Historically, glycans have been difficult to study because of their structural complexity and the lack of a clear link to DNA. However, recent advances using new methodologies have fueled a renewed emphasis on exploiting glycans in cancer, positioning glycomics at the forefront of translational developments.

For this Special Issue, we welcome original and review papers focused on exploring the potential to exploit aberrant glycosylation in cancer to improve diagnosis and treatment. We encourage papers that provide insight into the role of glycans, glycosaminoglycans, and glycoconjugates such as glycoproteins, proteoglycans, glycolipids, and glycan synthesizing and degrading enzymes,  in the hallmarks of cancer, as biomarkers for cancer diagnosis, and the potential targeting for the development of new therapeutic strategies. Studies including modeling to improve our understanding of the mechanisms governing binding to proteins, growth factors, and matrix effectors are also welcome.

We look forward to receiving your contributions.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Cancers is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2900 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
