Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) poses a significant social burden, as it has a widespread effect on healthcare systems, the economy, and social welfare. In 2016, there were over 251 million COPD cases recorded. Approximately 3 million deaths are attributed to COPD, which makes up to 6% of all deaths globally. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), COPD will become the third most common cause of death by 2030, due to ongoing exposure to smoke and the aging of the population.
The complex interplay between COPD and thoracic malignancies, particularly lung cancer, is a subject of significant medical interest and concern. The treatment of COPD patients, especially those with malignancies, remains a formidable challenge. Also, COPD complicates the management of lung cancer and other thoracic malignancies, affecting diagnosis, treatment, and prognosis.
We invite potential contributors to submit their work on current challenges in treating COPD patients with lung cancer or secondary pulmonary malignancies. We are particularly interested in manuscripts addressing survival predictors, postoperative/postinterventional risk factors, and novel therapy strategies or regimens. Submissions may include original research articles, narrative reviews, and systematic reviews.
This Special Issue aims to compile cutting-edge research and expert reviews that will enhance our understanding and treatment of this complex patient population.
We look forward to receiving your valuable contributions.
