Background
Precision medicine is a novel cancer treatment approach that specifically targets the patients’ clinical features with genetic or proteomic alterations. In gynecologic cancers, one of the most successful examples is the use of poly (ADP-ribose) and polymerase (PARP) inhibitors in advanced ovarian cancer patients who have the BRCA mutation or homologous recombination deficiency (HRD). Another example is the use of anti-programmed cell death-1 (PD1)/ligand 1 (PD-L1) in advanced or recurrent endometrial cancers that harbor mismatch repair (MMR) deficiency, as well as cervical cancers that have PD-L1 expression. Precision medicine may potentially improve the survival outcomes of these patients, maintain their quality of life, and provide an alternative treatment option, especially in those who are resistant to conventional chemotherapy. Therefore, a reliable test is required to select the right patients for the treatment.
Scope
This Special Issue aims to collect papers on diagnostic tests related to the application of precision medicine in gynecologic cancers. We invite authors to submit their original research including preclinical, translational studies, and clinical trials. Review articles and protocol designs may also be considered. Potential topics include but are not limited to:
- Molecular assessments such as liquid biopsy and tumor molecular profiling;
- Cutting-edge imaging techniques such as radiomics and artificial intelligence;
- Translational models to correlate patients’ responses to targeted therapy and immunotherapy.
