Impact of SARS-CoV-2 and COVID-19 on the Economy and Society

Dear Colleagues,

The Special Issue of Encyclopedia, “Impact of SARS-CoV-2 and COVID-19 on the Economy and Society”, intends to provide scientific evidence, as well as innovative discoveries, opinions, concepts, ideas, protocols, testable hypotheses, theoretical models, and statistically-valid empirical analyses, regarding how the SARS-Cov-2 virus that causes the COVID-19 disease, and the pandemic after which it is named, has impacts on all aspects and sectors of the economy and society, including risk management and monitoring in a ‘new normal’ COVID-19 world. Submissions are encouraged from all academic disciplines.

This inaugural Special Issue will analyze the following topics after the onset of COVID-19: the speed and costs of opening up the economy and society too quickly or too slowly; the consequences of opening up educational institutions at all levels; measuring the effects of social distancing, self-isolation, quarantining, and lockdowns; evaluating the long-term costs and sustainability of lockdowns; estimating flattening (or planking) the curve of confirmed COVID-19 cases and deaths; impacts on the economy, economic growth, financing, and healthcare insurance costs; measuring the costs of pre-existing health conditions on medical insurance costs; forecasting house prices in urban and regional areas; evaluation of the effects on domestic and international tourism and hospitality; and the impact of fake news and misinformation in news media and social media platforms.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the Topical Collection website. Review articles and Entry papers are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. Encyclopedia is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.
