Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Eating disorders (EDs) are severe illnesses in which people experience significant disturbances in their eating behaviors and related thoughts and emotions. In the last two decades, the global prevalence of EDs has increased from 3.5% to 7.8% (Galmiche et al., 2019), and the rate among women remains significantly higher (APA, 2013). Despite the severity and scope of EDs, there are few studies that have provided updated information on their epidemiology, assessment, and the contribution of psychological resources and psychosocial stressors in the development, maintenance, prevention, and treatment of these disorders. In order to fill this gap in the literature and thus, contribute to reducing the prevalence and impact of related psychosocial stressors on EDs, it would be relevant to provide updated data regarding the epidemiology of EDs; to develop screening and diagnostic instruments up-to-date with DSM-5; and to study the role of potential psychological resources and psychosocial stressors such as family psychosocial functioning (e.g., teasing and bullying, experience of family care, expressed emotion), emotional intelligence, self-esteem, life satisfaction, body dissatisfaction, social support, social isolation, discrimination, exhaustion, depression, anxiety, stress, etc., in the development, maintenance, prevention, treatment, and relapse of these disorders.

Systematic reviews, meta-analyses, original research (based on empirical studies, instrumental research, or validation studies), hypotheses and theories, and protocols are welcome.
