Dear Colleagues,
The past decade has brought an exponential increase in studies addressing the mechanisms through which interactions between the gut microbiome, the immune system, and cancer shape anti-cancer immunity. Since 90% of immune cells are associated with the gut, and the gut microbiome orchestrates local and systemic immune responses, it is clear that bidirectional crosstalk between the gut microbiome and the immune system determines cancer progression and metastasis. Much emphasis has been placed on the effects of the gut microbiome on adaptive immunity, especially in the context of responses to immunotherapies, mainly immune checkpoint blockade, but less is known about the contributions of humoral immunity in mediating the effects of the gut microbiome on cancer progression. We would like to invite you to contribute original research articles and reviews to this collection that aims to highlight the role of humoral immunity, including B cells and immunoglobulins, in shaping immune responses and the gut microbiome in cancer.
