Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Neurodegenerative diseases are among the major health conditions that affect neurons in the human brain and result in the progressive degeneration or death of nervous system cells. Examples of neurodegenerative diseases are Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's disease, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, multiple sclerosis, Huntington’s disease, etc. representing incurable and debilitating conditions.

To date, among the therapeutic strategies to reduce the progression of these diseases, nutritional strategies, mainly aimed at alleviating the symptoms of patients, such as inflammation, metabolic alterations, dysbiosis of commensal microbiota, and loss of neuronal structures, are highly relevant and have already proven to be beneficial for some patients.

Furthermore, a close relationship has emerged between metabolic diseases, induced by overnutrition, and neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer's and Parkinson's; personalized nutrition strategies have been suggested as preventative tools.

This research topic aims to collect original research studies, reviews, and case reports which focus on new nutritional strategies to improve patient well-being. Furthermore, we also aim to collect studies that focus on the biological mechanisms of the activity of supplements, nutraceuticals, and other alternative medicine approaches that have the potential to significantly influence the health and quality of the lives of patients affected by neurodegenerative diseases.

We invite you to submit your research articles and reviews in order to expand knowledge and identify research gaps with innovative studies on developing new nutritional approaches.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. International Journal of Molecular Sciences is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. There is an Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal. For details about the APC please see here. Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
