Oman Medical Association (OMA)
The Oman Medical Association (OMA) was established in the year 2001 to facilitate comprehensive development of the Healthcare Services sector in the Sultanate of Oman. It is headquartered in Muscat, the capital city, and its activities encompasses all the governorates of the Sultanate. The association works closely with the Ministries of Health, Social Development, Higher Education, Scientific Research and Innovation.
Aims:
- We strive to improve the art of medical practice and promote the scientific development of medicine and healthcare in Oman.
- We are committed to the comprehensive development of Public Health and Medical Education in Oman and in the region.
The OMA aims to achieve the following main objectives:
- Develop and raise the standards of practicing medicine and related healthcare sectors.
- Spreading health awareness in the community and working to improve health services for them.
- Submitting proposals to develop health services in the Sultanate to the competent government authorities.
- Cooperating with similar professional bodies in other countries in the field of health services. Enhancing ways of cooperation and maximizing the exchange of experience, knowledge and technology.
- Encouraging and supporting Research and Development (R & D) in the healthcare sector in Oman and in the region.
- Contributing to the development and innovation in medical education in the country and the region.
- Developing and preserving the literature related to healthcare sectors.
- Continuous development of knowledge and practical skills of all the healthcare professionals and keeping them abreast with the latest updates in their sector.
- Cooperating with international and regional professional organizations to provide expert training to healthcare professionals and workers.
- Ensuring that all healthcare members of the association follow the professional code of conduct, and exercises their duties in the best manner.
- Assisting the members of the association in their professional development, and defending them before judicial bodies and disciplinary councils in the advent of medicolegal issues.
OMA constitutes of and regulates more than 45 medical specialty and scientific societies in Oman.
OMA was recently selected as the best association among the national medical associations in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) and OMA is currently chairing the Arab Medical Union.
