Current Status and Future Research in Infectious Diseases’ Treatment and Prophylaxis

Dear Colleagues,

Lately, we have experienced the COVID-19 pandemic, the worst pandemic that we can remember. Over the years, viruses have proven that they can be unpredictable, but bacteria, parasites, and fungi can also take us by surprise. Global efforts have targeted prevention, and in some cases met with success: on the 29th of March 2023, the World Health Organization announced that a total of 42 countries or territories have reached the malaria-free milestone; however, there is much to be done in regard to cholera epidemics, monkeypox outbreaks, the prevalence of tuberculosis, the emergence of new multidrug-resistant fungi, such as Candida auris, and many more.

The aim of this Special Issue is to discuss the current status of and future research in infectious diseases. Prophylaxis is usually the first approach, but when this is no longer possible, we must treat them.

To attract as much new information as possible about infectious diseases’ current statuses as well as future research, prophylaxis, and treatment.

In this Special Issue, we welcome original articles and reviews providing new research data on infectious diseases irrespective of the etiology—bacterial, viral, parasitic, or mycotic—as well as on infectious diseases’ current statuses and future research, prophylaxis, and treatment.

Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process.
