20th Anniversary

The year 2026 marks the 20th anniversary of the Journal of Theoretical and Applied Electronic Commerce Research (JTAER), a peer‑reviewed open access journal dedicated to the theory and practice of electronic commerce. With an Impact Factor of 4.6 (2024) and a CiteScore of 11.7 (2024), this journal is indexed in SSCI (Web of Science), Scopus, dblp, and other leading databases. Over the past two decades, JTAER has published cutting‑edge research from thousands of authors and has been supported by a global community of editors and reviewers. We deeply value the contributions of every researcher, author, and reviewer who has helped shape this journal into a vibrant platform for scholarly exchange.

In celebration of this milestone, we reflect on two decades of advancing electronic commerce research—from its foundational theories to today’s dynamic intersections with AI, data science, digital marketing, and sustainable business. As we enter our third decade under the renewed stewardship of MDPI, we are excited to embark on a new chapter of growth, innovation, and even greater service to the research community.

Journal History


The inaugural issue of JTAER was released by the University of Talca, Chile.



JTAER was indexed in Scopus.



JTAER received its first Impact Factor (0.774).



JTAER was published by MDPI from Volume 16, Issue 3 (2021).



JTAER was acquired by MDPI from Volume 20, Issue 1 (2025).



Prof. Dr. Ting Chi was appointed as Editor-in-Chief of JTAER.



The year 2026 marked the 20th Anniversary of JTAER.

JTAER adopted a monthly publication schedule.
