Special Issue Information

Dear colleagues,

Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) has been associated with many different forms of cardiovascular diseases (CVD), including hypertension, stroke, HF, coronary artery disease, and atrial fibrillation. Adults with OSA not only have an increased risk of developing comorbid CVD, but also have worse outcomes related to CVD. OSA is highly prevalent, and its prevalence is increasing, likely related to obesity as well to an aging population. However, awareness of OSA is still limited, and most cases remain undiagnosed.

To achieve a more comprehensive understanding of sleep apnea syndrome, the journal Life now invites valuable contributions that report original observations or review sleep apnea syndrome. This collection of manuscripts will be published as a Special Issue in the journal first, and hopefully as an eBook later on. Investigators in the sleep apnea syndrome field or other related fields are encouraged to participate in this special event. Please email Emanuela Teresina Locati <[email protected]> or Dr. Marzia Giaccardi <[email protected]> if you would like to make a contribution.

We warmly invite researchers to submit their contributions to this Special Issue. Potential topics include, but are not limited to, the following:

  1. Introduction and objectives
  2. History and epidemiology of sleep apnea
  3. Pathogenic mechanisms of obstructive and central sleep apnea
  4. Diagnostic methods of sleep apnea
  5. Sleep apnea and pneumological diseases
  6. Sleep apnea and neurologic diseases
  7. Sleep apnea and ear, nose, and throat diseases
  8. Genetic aspects of sleep apnea
  9. Sleep apnea and diabetes
  10. Sleep apnea and obesity
  11. Sleep apnea and coagulative disorders
  12. Sleep apnea and arterial hypertension
  13. Sleep apnea and cardiac ischemia
  14. Sleep apnea and heart failure
  15. Sleep apnea and cerebrovascular diseases
  16. Sleep apnea and bradyarrhythmia
  17. Sleep apnea and atrial fibrillation

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Life is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2600 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
