Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

In today’s world, electricity has become a such widespread consumer good, so much so that, in the event of its absence or shortage, poverty is assigned to the affected area. The reason for this is the fact that many of the technologies used by humanity require electricity to operate. But can anything else be achieved in a field in which Edison, Tesla, Faraday, and Siemens have achieved so much? We are on the threshold of new technological implementations that will replace old technologies, and the key word here is superconductivity. This phenomenon has been elusive to science for a long time, largely because it has been occurring at seemingly low temperatures, which have been available to our civilization for less than 150 years. The replacement of direct and alternating currents with superconducting currents is already taking place, not within domestic spaces, but rather in factories and in infrastructure.

This Special Issue will review the state of knowledge and the level of implementation of the superconducting phenomenon in terms of prototypes and ready-made technologies. It is very important to implement new superconducting materials into known technologies and to produce superconducting cables and tapes, which are the most interesting and crucial for energy, storage (SMES), and processing productions (fusion). The implementation of superconducting technologies into electro-energetic grids is also important for safety (current limiters) and for efficiency—ultimately reducing loses (zero losses current transmission cables).

For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. Materials is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2600 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
