Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Biomaterials are a class of natural or synthetic specialized functional materials used for contact and interaction with living systems. Biomaterials enable diagnostic treatment, replacement repair or induced regeneration for cells, tissues and organs. Biomaterials is a cross-penetrating field of many disciplines, including materials science, life science, chemistry, biology, anatomy, pathology, clinical medicine, pharmacology, and so on. High-quality biomaterials are essential for ensuring safety and efficacy for patients. Biomaterials are prepared using a variety of procedures, including physical or chemical methods. The structure and functional properties of biomedical materials are significantly affected by their chemical components, manufacturing method, and technology. In recent years, this field has experienced rapid growth due to the introduction of many cutting-edge technologies, advanced materials, design, and simulation techniques, as well as the development of structural and functional applications.

This Special Issue welcomes original research and high-quality comprehensive reviews on the recent advances of biomaterials. This symposium focuses on significant advances in the development, characterization, and application of biomaterials. Materials systems of interest include, but are not limited to, biomedical metallic, inorganic, and polymer materials.

In this Special Issue, original research articles and reviews are welcome. Research areas may include (but are not limited to) the following:

  1. New biomedical materials and manufacturing techniques;
  2. Design and processing of biofunctional biomaterials;
  3. Biocompatibility and biofunctionality evaluation;
  4. Computational simulation in biomaterials and tissue engineering;
  5. Biomaterials manufacturing and clinic applications.

The scope of this Special Issue is based on one of the Symposiums at the 30th International Conference on Computational & Experimental Engineering and Sciences (ICCES2024)—"Advanced Manufacturing and Application of Biomedical and Biomimetic Metals". For more information about the event, please visit the following link: https://www.iccesconf.org/symposium/.

Nevertheless, we encourage all scholars, including those who did not attend the conference, to submit their papers to this Special Issue.

We look forward to receiving your contributions.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Materials is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2600 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.

Benefits of Publishing in a Special Issue

  • Ease of navigation: Grouping papers by topic helps scholars navigate broad scope journals more efficiently.
  • Greater discoverability: Special Issues support the reach and impact of scientific research. Articles in Special Issues are more discoverable and cited more frequently.
  • Expansion of research network: Special Issues facilitate connections among authors, fostering scientific collaborations.
  • External promotion: Articles in Special Issues are often promoted through the journal's social media, increasing their visibility.
  • e-Book format: Special Issues with more than 10 articles can be published as dedicated e-books, ensuring wide and rapid dissemination.
