Dear Colleagues,
Despite all the combined efforts of the scientific community, cancer remains a main cause of death affecting millions of people around the world. In cancer research, functional proteomics plays a crucial role in identifying and characterizing the proteins involved in the development, progression, and response to treatment of cancer. It provides insights into the functional alterations that occur in cancer cells compared to normal cells, but also compared to different cancer types and stages, which can aid in the discovery of potential precise and personalized therapeutic targets and biomarkers for early diagnosis, prognosis and monitoring. There are several techniques and approaches used in cancer functional proteomics, including protein expression profiling, protein interaction analysis, and the study of post-translational modifications (PTMs). Understanding how proteins interact with each other is crucial for unraveling the complex network of signaling pathways in cancer. PTMs, such as phosphorylation, acetylation, methylation, and ubiquitination, play a crucial role in regulating protein function and cellular processes; therefore, their study is essential for gaining insights into how these modifications contribute to cancer development and progression. By integrating data from these approaches with other available data, cancer functional proteomics provides a comprehensive understanding of the dynamic proteomic landscape in cancer cells. This knowledge can help identify new therapeutic targets, develop personalized treatment strategies, and improve patient outcomes in the field of oncology.
We are excited to invite authors to submit original research and review articles that address the progress and current standing of functional proteomics studies in cancer research. Research areas may include various aspects and approaches that have been developed for understanding and predicting the dynamics and alterations of the proteome in the development, progression, and resistance to therapy of different cancers, as well as their potential application in developing precise cancer diagnosis, prognosis and therapies.

All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process.
