Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Urothelial carcinoma (UC) represents the most common type of epithelial tumor of the bladder and upper urinary tract (UUT). Most newly diagnosed UC of the bladder manifests as non-muscle invasive bladder cancer (NMIBC), usually with good prognosis; however, it recurs often and places a significant socioeconomic burden and stress on patients. In contrast, muscle invasive bladder cancer (MIBC) is a life-threating disease, which requires radical surgical treatment and/or multimodal treatment. Hence, UC of the blader represents a clinical and social challenge because of its incidence, post-treatment recurrence rate, and prognosis.

In recent years, the poor diagnostic accuracy of the available diagnostic tools such as urine cytology, cystoscopy, and conventional imaging modalities have emphasized the urgent need for advancements in clinical guidance for UC. Moreover, novel treatment approaches, both medical and surgical, have significantly impacted the management of these patients, with the latest clinical trials and molecular classification significantly changing the management and prognosis of MIBC and NMIBC. At the same time, the quality of life of these patients has gained growing interest.

This Special Issue presents up-to-date articles, original articles, and reviews related to the diagnosis, prognostic assessment, and management of UC of the bladder.
