Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Wearable photonic devices have gained significant attention due to their potential to revolutionize various domains, including healthcare, biotechnology, communication, brain–computer interfacing, and augmented reality. With the seamless integration of optics, photonics, and wearable technology, a new era of intelligent wearables is emerging, reshaping our relationship with technology, and enabling healthier and more connected lives. Continued breakthroughs in intelligent wearable optoelectronics and biophotonics hold immense promise and have shown the potential to revolutionize personalized healthcare by empowering individuals to continuously and non-invasively monitor their health, and proactively maintain well-being, facilitating the early detection and prevention of diseases.

This Special Issue aims to bring together cutting-edge research and advancements towards unlocking the full potential of wearable photonic devices and pave the way for transformative innovations. It seeks to explore the latest developments, challenges, and applications of wearable photonic devices, highlighting their impact and potential to transform multiple industries. Submissions may cover, but are not limited to, the following areas:

  • Design and fabrication of wearable photonic devices;
  • Advanced materials and fabrication techniques for wearable optics;
  • Biophotonics and photomedicine for wearable health monitoring and diagnostics;
  • Optical sensors and biosensors integrated into wearable devices;
  • Wearable photonic technologies for augmented reality and virtual reality applications;
  • Wearable devices for optical communication and data transfer;
  • Integration of wearable photonic devices with artificial intelligence and machine learning algorithms;
  • Human–computer interaction and user experience in wearable photonic devices;
  • Safety, ethics, and regulatory considerations in wearable photonic device development and deployment;
  • Emerging applications and future perspectives of wearable photonic devices.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Micromachines is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2600 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
