Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

The rise of the power conversion efficiency of single-junction perovskite solar cells (PSCs), as well as tandem devices, has shaken up the scientific photovoltaic community. Improved methods for Pb and Sn perovskite thin film formation, LED applications, new solar device architectures with optimal performance and increasing efficiency towards (or beyond) the Shockley–Queisser (SQ) limit, as well as improving stability are the current challenges in this field. In particular, high-band-gap perovskites that make optimal tandem cell combinations with state-of-the-art commercial silicon solar cells are propelling the field even further. Perovskites with Pb or Sn have received a tremendous amount of attention, since these materials provide a cheap route to highly efficient photovoltaic and LED materials. The comprehensive understanding and control of the inherent (photo)chemical properties and stability of these intriguing materials are paramount for progress.

This Special Issue will focus on the prospects and recent advancements in PSC and LED materials and technology. Special attention will be paid to fundamental material properties that are important in determining the performance of these materials. Diverse materials science characterization, from basic to state-of-the-art techniques, will be applied to attain a fundamental understanding of properties influencing output, either electrical power or light.

Molecules is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
