Progress in Metal Catalysis

Dear Colleagues,

Metal-catalysis undertakes the significant task of creating new substances, new structures and new functions. It is the core and foundation of chemical science and has always been at the forefront of the development of chemical science. Every time chemists add a new tool of metal-catalysis to the "toolbox", the fineness of molecular construction is further improved. At present, more than 90% of the world's industrial chemicals involve chemical catalysis in the production process, and about 35% of the world's GDP involves chemical catalysis to some extent. With the help of metal catalysts, the process of drug production is simplified and the efficiency is greatly improved. At the same time, the Nobel prize also favors metal catalysis. For example, in 2001, the Nobel Prize in chemistry was awarded to "chiral catalytic hydrogenation and oxidation"; in 2010, Pd-catalyzed cross coupling reaction was also awarded. The birth of metal-catalysis has unprecedentedly improved the ability and level of chemists to manipulate atoms and molecules. Metal catalysis not only solves the problems in the process of compound synthesis but also promotes molecular drug manufacturers to develop a new generation of drugs. For example, 15% ~ 30% of the compounds currently being developed by AstraZeneca are metal-catalyzed methods. Gleevec, Valsartan, Boscalid, Prosulfuron and Cyclotene are only some of the achievements of metal catalysis. Therefore, the significance of metal catalysis is not only on paper but also further invested in the great cause of national production and building socialism, which is beneficial to the country and the people.

This Special Issue aims to collect scientific papers with metal-catalysis works. The most remarkable feature of metal catalysis is that it has strong creativity. It can not only create substances already existing in nature, but it can also create new substances with ideal properties and functions that do not exist in nature. Through the intersection and integration with other disciplines, metal-catalysis has produced many new interdisciplinary and cutting-edge fields, which provide new opportunities for the development of metals. At the same time, it also puts forward higher requirements for metal catalysis itself in different space–time scales in order to explore its infinite possibilities.

Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process.
