Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

In the last several decades, the importance of the investigation of reactions occurring in solid state has grown rapidly, not only because of their novel contributions to the theory of physical organic chemistry, but also because these processes are involved in the development of new technological materials. Historically, these reactions were studied in crystals where the specific molecular arrangements can promote the formation of the transition state. Most of the mechanisms studied in crystals have been focused on photochemically induced reactions, and it has been found that the structural pattern of the interacting atoms of the reactants resemble the structure of the product. This led to the development of a new concept called “topochemical condition”. Relatively recently, a similar approach has been used for studying the thermally induced organic reactions in crystals and in poly-crystalline phases.

The intention of this Special Issue of Molecules is to collect novel knowledge about the mechanisms of all types of such reactions, independently of whether they are occurring under thermal or photochemical conditions. Authors are encouraged to contribute manuscripts covering the widest aspects about these reactions, from research at the fundamental level to investigations of the possible applications of these processes in the synthesis of novel materials, such as materials with special optical properties, organic semiconductors, receptors, force-field transistors, memories, etc.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Molecules is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2700 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
