Vitamin D Deficiency and Neurodegenerative Diseases: Mechanisms and Clinical Implications

Dear Colleagues,

Vitamin D deficiency is increasingly recognized as a potential risk factor for neurodegenerative diseases, including Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease, and multiple sclerosis. Emerging evidence suggests that insufficient vitamin D may contribute to the onset and progression of these conditions through mechanisms such as neuroinflammation, impaired calcium homeostasis, mitochondrial dysfunction, and increased oxidative stress.

This Special Issue will showcase original research articles and comprehensive reviews that investigate the molecular and cellular pathways linking vitamin D deficiency to neurodegeneration, as well as clinical studies evaluating biomarkers, risk associations, and intervention strategies. By focusing on mechanistic and translational perspectives, this Special Issue will provide valuable insights into the role of vitamin D in brain health and disease.
