Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Improving patients' adherence to therapy is a major factor in protecting public health, and tailoring the dosage forms to meet the requirements of specific populations is a rational approach in this regard. In recent years, the pharmaceutical industry has increasingly embraced patient-centric design, significantly influencing lipid-based drug formulations. This Special Issue aims to explore how incorporating patient-focused approaches into these advanced delivery systems enhances therapeutic efficacy, patient adherence, and overall healthcare outcomes.

Lipid-based formulations, including liposomes, solid lipid nanoparticles, and self-emulsifying drug delivery systems, improve the bioavailability of poorly water-soluble drugs and offer controlled release. Success hinges on aligning these formulations with patient needs and preferences, considering factors such as ease of administration, dosing frequency, and minimizing side effects.

In this Special Issue, original research articles and reviews are welcome. Research areas may include (but are not limited to) the following:

  • Innovative Formulation Techniques: Enhancing stability, bioavailability, and targeted delivery through novel encapsulation technologies and nanoparticle engineering.
  • Customization and Personalization: Tailoring formulations for specific patient populations and leveraging pharmacogenomics and patient feedback for personalized medicine.
  • Administration Routes and Preferences: Developing oral, transdermal, injectable, and inhalable options to simplify administration and improve patient experience.
  • Safety and Patient Outcomes: Ensuring safety and optimizing therapeutic outcomes through rigorous preclinical and clinical testing.

By integrating insights from pharmaceutical sciences, clinical practice, and patient advocacy, this issue aims to advance patient-centric lipid-based drug formulations, improving patient quality of life. We invite contributions reflecting the latest advancements and case studies in this dynamic field.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Pharmaceutics is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2900 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
