Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Electrohydrodynamic processing techniques are powerful tools for fabricating materials with a wide range of structures, from nanometers to micrometers, making them highly suitable for biomedical applications. Among the most promising areas of exploration is the development of novel drug delivery systems. These systems can encapsulate and deliver a variety of bioactive agents, including antimicrobial substances, nanomaterials, anticancer drugs, nucleic acids, peptides, enzymes, bacteria, and proteins. However, the current challenge lies in optimizing the incorporation, encapsulation, and subsequent controlled release of these agents to the target site. Key factors include maximizing loading efficiency, ensuring effective release profiles, maintaining the stability of sensitive therapeutics, and designing systems that allow for ease of administration.

This Special Issue aims to highlight the latest advancements and emerging trends in the use of electrospinning and electrospraying techniques for the development of novel biomedical applications, including relatively unexplored fields such as applications in diabetes, hormone therapies, and autoimmune diseases. Submissions of original research articles containing experimental data are encouraged, as well as comprehensive review articles that provide a critical analysis of recent progress in the field. Topics of interest include but are not limited to, innovations in material design, the development of multifunctional drug delivery platforms, and advancements in the encapsulation and release of therapeutic agents.
