Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
This Special Issue is devoted to publishing research papers on interactions between plant endophytes and plant specialized metabolites, including volatiles (VOCs). Therefore, we invite manuscripts that report original research on (1) metabolome–microbial community correlation studies conducted on fields, in greenhouses or other suitable setups; (2) single-strain or SynCom endophyte inoculation studies in plants, including studies with pathogenesis models; (3) in vitro effects of plant specialized metabolites, plant extracts or plants on endophytic fungi from growth inhibition to transcriptomics and metabolomics; (4) biotransformation of plant specialized metabolites by endophytic fungi, etc. Reports on crops and medicinal plants are especially welcome. Regarding endophytes, papers on filamentous fungi and yeasts (including model organisms) will all be considered.
Before submission, please ensure that your manuscript complies with the following: (1) endophytic strains have been identified with widely accepted genetical barcodes (genus or species level); (2) the study employs chemically well-defined compounds or the used plant extracts have been well characterized; (3) provides adequate usage of statistical methods with false positive discovery rates adjusted when appropriate; (4) the paper provides enough details regarding the identification of the plant material (include the cultivar for crops).
Please note that the following papers will not be considered for review: (1) studies using uncharacterized plant extracts; (2) studies using plant extracts characterized with spectrophotometric assays such as antioxidant capacity assays and total flavonoids assays only; (3) studies on unidentified endophytic strains; (4) transcriptomics-only studies with no chemical analysis carried out.

All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. Plants is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
