Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Polymers, after their rapid emergence and spread to all areas of the economy, are currently a controversial material. On the one hand, we can no longer imagine life without them due to their many exceptional properties, but on the other hand, the question of their impact on human health and the environment when they are used excessively remains unresolved. Although there are currently efforts to produce polymers on a biological or degradable level, as well as to recycle them, or to reduce their excessive use where it is not necessary and where they can be replaced by other materials, the use of their properties and appropriate use remain a challenge. At the same time, development and improvement in the field of technology brings new possibilities for the production of complex shaped components from various types of polymers, advantageously and very well usable for the automotive, aerospace, construction and energy industries, but also for the field of healthcare industry. In addition, it enables an individual approach to human needs and interests (human-centric) in line with the Industry 5.0 concept, which puts technology and product production at the forefront from a comprehensive perspective, especially from the perspective of health, safety, reliability, and environmental friendliness.

The aim of this Special Issue is therefore to provide a professional and expert perspective on the following:

  • the possibilities of using polymers where their exceptional properties are manifested and where their application, compared to other materials, makes sense not only in terms of functionality and user comfort, but also in terms of safety, energy efficiency, and environmental impact;
  • assessing the efficiency of their use from the perspective of the entire product life cycle in comparison with the use of another type of material;
  • setting the conditions for the production of polymer-based products and assessing their impact on the quality and durability of the product;
  • specifying physical and material properties for their prospective use in polymer-based products in various industrial and consumer sectors with regard to their functionality, quality, safety, sustainability, and environmental friendliness;
  • other related.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Polymers is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2700 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.

Benefits of Publishing in a Special Issue

  • Ease of navigation: Grouping papers by topic helps scholars navigate broad scope journals more efficiently.
  • Greater discoverability: Special Issues support the reach and impact of scientific research. Articles in Special Issues are more discoverable and cited more frequently.
  • Expansion of research network: Special Issues facilitate connections among authors, fostering scientific collaborations.
  • External promotion: Articles in Special Issues are often promoted through the journal's social media, increasing their visibility.
  • Reprint: MDPI Books provides the opportunity to republish successful Special Issues in book format, both online and in print.
