Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Due to their advantages of easy processing, flexibility, and low cost, polymer-based dielectric composites have important application prospects in the electrical and electronic and energy-storage industries.

This Special Issue of the open access journal Polymers aims to collect cutting-edge original research papers and reviews on the topic of "Polymer-Based Dielectric Composites", comprising novel approaches or applications, novel polymer synthesis, novel structure design and development of flexible polymer-based nanocomposite dielectric materials, ferroelectric polymer-based nanocomposite dielectrics, energy storage materials, high-dielectric-constant–low-dielectric-loss polymer composite dielectrics, including thin/thick film, coating of resin, etc. It aims to provide a platform for international scholars engaged in research on polymer-based dielectric composites to display and exchange the latest research results, and to promote the deepening of dielectric theory and application research in academia.

Best Regards,

Dr. Weiwei Cui
Guest Editor

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Polymers is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2700 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.

In the context of lifetime extension of Nuclear Power Plants (NPPs), electric cable ageing has to be checked to evaluate their performance during normal operation. These electric cables are complex materials, with a conductor and insulating shield in the metal and insulating layer and sheath in the polymer; the most sensitive layer is commonly considered to be the insulating layer. The ageing mechanism upon irradiation under oxidative conditions has been evaluated using gas mass spectrometry and the first conclusions have been drawn. Nonetheless, the data obtained are very numerous and complex; thus, the objective of this new article regards these experimental results using mathematical tools. It allowed confirmation of all the results obtained on these materials, but using chemometrics, i.e., statistical/mathematical analyses, of the results. Using these powerful mathematical tools gives strength to the analyses realised and to the conclusions obtained. Full article

Silicone rubber insulation material is widely used for the external insulation of power systems. During the continuous service of a power grid, it will be seriously aged due to the influence of high voltage electric fields and harsh climate environments, which will reduce its insulation performance and service life and cause transmission line failure. How to evaluate the aging performance of silicone rubber insulation materials scientifically and accurately is a hot and difficult issue in the industry. Starting from the composite insulator, which is the most widely used insulating device of silicone rubber insulation materials, this paper expounds the aging mechanism of silicone rubber materials, analyzes the applicability and effectiveness of various existing aging tests and evaluation methods, especially discusses the magnetic resonance detection methods emerging in recent years, and finally summarizes the characterization and evaluation technology of the aging state of silicone rubber insulation materials.
