Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
A new generation of Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) sensors is becoming operational to map, monitor and analyze the Earth and other planets. The newly enhanced platforms, configurations and operational modes increase the flexibility of SAR sensors enabling them to obtain even multi-dimensional microwave images and data within a wide range of resolutions and coverages, both in space and time. Open and free of charge SAR data relevant to the entire world, as well as software tools concerning fundamentals of SAR processing are now available. This unprecedented development in the SAR arena requires definition of new models, algorithms, techniques and tools for SAR data exploitation, as well as assessment and validation of existing methods. The main purpose of this Special Issue is to provide a reference of the SAR sensors and their operating characteristics, and to further advance the exploitation of their data for monitoring applications.
Contributions from the research community to this Special Issue are solicited on:
- Existing and future SAR sensors and missions;
- SAR data processing and simulation for 2D images, interferometric and differential interferometric products;
- Stripmap, Spotlight, Hybrid or Sliding Strip-Spot, ScanSAR and TOPSAR, Bistatic and multistatic operational modes;
- Spaceborne, airborne, UAV SAR sensors;
- SAR polarimetry;
- Multi-temporal, multi-frequency or multi-mission SAR techniques;
- Integration of SAR data with other remote sensing products;
- Validation of SAR data and techniques with in situ and field campaign data;
- SAR data usage and information retrieval for application to land, ocean, urban areas, forestry, volcanoes, ice monitoring;
- SAR data elaboration, parameters estimation, and feature extraction for retrieval of value added information;

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. Sensors is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
