Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
It is our pleasure to announce a new Special Issue, entitled ‘Approaching a Carbon Neutral and Sustainable Society Using Geological Solutions’, for the journal Sustainability.
Global emissions of carbon dioxide and its adverse effect on climate change will continue for many years, although human beings have adopted many kinds of renewable energy. Research advances in CO2 capture and utilization will play an important role in transforming us into a carbon-free society. According to the current situation in the energy market, new unconventional energy sources and sustainable use of the underground are crucial topics for approaching carbon neutrality.
The aim of this Special Issue is to provide authors a platform to present their studies and ideas in the declared research area to find the best solutions to solve current problems and to make a positive contribution to human life. The subject is perfectly related to the journal scope.
We invite original research articles and critical reviews on topics related (but not limited) to the following:
- Research advances in CO2 capture and CO2 utilization;
- Hydrogen geological storage and use;
- Geothermal energy recovery (including CO2–CPG);
- New unconventional renewable energy recovery;
- Synergy of unconventional renewable methods and technologies.

Manuscript Submission Information
Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. Sustainability is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
