Dear Colleagues,
This Special Issue "Sustainability and Advanced Research on Microbiology" seeks to define and expand the understanding of how microbiological research can contribute to sustainable development across various sectors, including agriculture, aquaculture, bioenergy, bioremediation, environmental conservation, and hydroponics. The scope of this Issue encompasses studies that explore the roles of microorganisms in ecosystem functions, biotechnological applications, and the sustainable management of natural resources. By highlighting the latest advances in microbiology, this Issue aims to bridge the gap between fundamental research and practical applications that address global sustainability challenges.
The purpose of this Issue is to showcase innovative approaches that utilize microbial processes to solve pressing environmental and economic problems, such as biofuels, pollution, resource depletion, and food security. This Special Issue builds on the existing literature by integrating new insights from cutting-edge research in microbial ecology, biotechnology, and environmental sciences. It also seeks to connect these findings with broader sustainability efforts, such as the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly those related to clean water, sustainable agriculture, and climate action.
In achieving these aims, this Special Issue positions itself at the intersection of microbiology and sustainability, offering a unique contribution to the ongoing discourse on how to achieve a more sustainable future. By bringing together diverse perspectives and interdisciplinary research, it aims to inspire new strategies and collaborations that can lead to practical, scalable solutions for sustainable development.

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. Sustainability is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.

Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
