Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
We are inviting your contributions to a Special Issue of Sustainability with the theme of “Advanced Energy Storage Techniques towards Sustainable Transportation”.
In face of the stringent government mandates and customer demand for a low-carbon society, the automotive industries are on the verge of a major transformation to reduce their dependence on fossil fuels that have a finite life expectancy. In such an energy innovation, the concept of sustainable transportation rooted in electrification has been brought to the forefront and leads to a cleaner utilization of energy, witnessed by the proactive penetration of the more-electric and all-electric vehicles, vessels and aircrafts. In this regard, technical merits in energy storage systems (ESSs), such as batteries and super/ultra-capacitors are critical for the success of transportation electrification and to foster the utilization of renewable energy sources.
The way to sustainable transportation also brings forward many challenges. This special issue seeks innovative ideas from academia and industry with good potentials to increase the sustainability of transportation systems. Special emphases are given to the design, modeling, management, control, and safety enhancement of ESSs, such as batteries, super/ultra-capacitors and fuel cells applied in transportation systems. We invite papers on technical developments, reviews, communications, and case studies that provide critical overview and reflect the cutting-edge progress in this field.
Topics of interest of this Special Issue include, but are not limited to:
Energy storage technologies
Energy efficient transit planning and operations
Sustainable vehicle routing and scheduling
Control-oriented modeling
Management and control of ESS
Safety issues in ESS and solutions
Diagnostic and health management of ESS
Smart charging, wireless charging for electric-vehicles
Integration of IoT into E-transportation

Manuscript Submission Information
Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Sustainability is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2400 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
