Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

As part of a sustainable development strategy, a number of countries around the world have used tourism to meet the needs of their economies, alleviate poverty, create jobs, and improve living standards. Sustainability is a concept that is constantly evolving in step with the rise of technology and it provides us with the ability to understand the environment in a more meaningful way. In order to meet the growing complexity of design projects and their ongoing dialogue with the natural environment, various disciplines have contributed by bringing essential concepts and tools into the mix.

Tourism has undergone significant changes as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, energy crisis, and economic crisis, and many academics and practitioners predict an industry paradigm shift as a result of these changes. A discussion and debate on how the new tourism can potentially affect the sustainable competitiveness and development of an industry as well as an academic society is crucial to the development of that industry and society at large.

This Special Issue aims to stimulate experimental, theoretical, and computational research on new tourism opportunities and explore ways in which sustainable competitiveness and development can be achieved. There is a need to investigate more of the new tools and procedures that can provide us with predictive and preventative means for sustainable development for similar scenarios in the future.

In this Special Issue, original research articles and reviews are welcome. Potential research areas include (but are not limited to) the following:

  • Tourism potential and green technologies
  • Tourism potential and sustainable development
  • Tourism potential and sustainability
  • Tourism potential and sustainable competitive advantage
  • Rural tourism potential
  • Ecotourism potential in sustainable development
  • Tourism environmental, social, and governance (ESG) indicators
  • Other related topics

We look forward to receiving your contributions.
