Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Sustainable development is not an unattainable goal, but a realistic choice for each and every one of us. Sustainable development emphasizes the balanced development of economy, energy, and environment. It requires us to balance energy utilization and environmental protection while developing the economy, achieving a harmonious unity of the three. This means that we need to abandon the traditional development model of "pollution first, treatment later" and instead seek a green, low-carbon, and circular development path. For example, developing renewable energy, promoting energy-saving and emission reduction technologies, and advocating green consumption are all specific measures to achieve sustainable development. Improving energy efficiency and promoting circular economy can not only promote economic growth but also reduce negative impacts on the environment, achieving a win–win situation for both the economy and the environment.

Energy is an important support for economic development and a key area for environmental protection. The extensive use of traditional fossil fuels is one of the main causes of environmental pollution and climate change. Therefore, promoting the transformation of energy structure and developing clean energy are inevitable choices for achieving sustainable development. For example, vigorously developing renewable energy sources such as solar and wind power can not only reduce dependence on fossil fuels and ensure energy security, but also effectively reduce carbon emissions, mitigate climate change, and leave a clean and beautiful home for future generations. Faced with global challenges such as resource scarcity, environmental pollution, and climate change, we have no choice but to adhere to the path of sustainable development in order to achieve harmonious coexistence between humans and nature and create a better future.

Integrating the economy, energy, and environment is not an easy task and requires joint efforts from the government, businesses, and the public. The government should formulate sound policies and regulations to guide and encourage sustainable development. Enterprises should actively assume social responsibility and integrate the concept of sustainable development into all aspects of production and operation. The public should raise environmental awareness and practice a green lifestyle. Only by working together can we build a prosperous economy, secure energy, and beautiful environment for a better future.

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Sustainability is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2400 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.

Benefits of Publishing in a Special Issue

  • Ease of navigation: Grouping papers by topic helps scholars navigate broad scope journals more efficiently.
  • Greater discoverability: Special Issues support the reach and impact of scientific research. Articles in Special Issues are more discoverable and cited more frequently.
  • Expansion of research network: Special Issues facilitate connections among authors, fostering scientific collaborations.
  • External promotion: Articles in Special Issues are often promoted through the journal's social media, increasing their visibility.
  • e-Book format: Special Issues with more than 10 articles can be published as dedicated e-books, ensuring wide and rapid dissemination.
