Because of the increased prevalence of chronic diseases, older adults frequently take many medications. However, adhering to a medication treatment tends to be difficult. The lack of medication adherence can cause health problems or even patient death. This paper describes the methodology used in developing a mobile augmented reality (MAR) pill box. The proposal supports patients in adhering to their medication treatment. First, we explain the design and construction of the automatic pill box, which includes alarms and uses QR codes recognized by the MAR system to provide medication information. Then, we explain the development of the MAR system. We conducted a preliminary survey with 30 participants to assess the feasibility of the MAR app. One hundred older adults participated in the survey. After one week of using the proposal, each patient answered a survey regarding the proposal functionality. The results revealed that 88% of the participants strongly agree and 11% agree that the app is a support in adhering to medical treatment. Finally, we conducted a study to compare the time elapsed between the scheduled time for taking the medication and the time it was actually consumed. The results from 189 records showed that using the proposal, 63.5% of the patients take medication with a maximum delay of 4.5 min. The results also showed that the alarm always sounded at the scheduled time and that the QR code displayed always corresponded to the medication that had to be consumed. Full article

Television commercials (TVCs) play a critical role in shaping and reflecting societal understandings of gender roles. Guided by cultivation theory and framing theory, this study examines gender representation in Indian TVCs, focusing on the gender distribution of primary characters, voiceovers, settings (home, outdoor, workplace), and product categories. A quantitative content analysis of 120 Indian TVCs from 2011 to 2020 was conducted, with coding performed by the researcher. Findings show that men were primary characters in 54.6% of ads, while women featured in 45.4%. Male voiceovers dominated at 70.1%, compared to 29.9% for females. Women appeared in home settings in 66.7% of TVCs, while men were predominant in workplace contexts (100%). No significant gender disparity was observed in outdoor settings. Product-wise, women were mostly linked with household and healthcare items, whereas men dominated sectors like banking, technology, and transport. The study highlights how repetitive portrayals of certain gender framings in TVCs contribute to the normalization of traditional gender roles, offering insights into the symbolic structures that reinforce these norms in Indian media culture. Antimicrobial resistance is a global health issue, and the WHO has made significant efforts in the development of tools for its monitoring. However, such tools are underutilized, due to limited knowledge, technical capacity, and scarcity of economic resources. AMR surveillance can be conducted using WHOnet and R, two free-of-charge software tools widely adopted in both clinical practice and scientific research. WHOnet is designed for managing laboratory data and antimicrobial susceptibility test results, while R is a programming language dedicated to statistical computing and data visualization. The combined use of these tools enables a reproducible workflow for retrospective AMR trend analysis. This paper provides step-by-step instructions on how to perform such analysis and also provides the respective R code. The described code and software results are shown using real-world data from an Italian hospital as an example. The standardization of the analysis process and the rapid availability of data on antimicrobial resistance are critical for both clinicians and public health professionals. They would allow for empirical decisions on antimicrobial treatment based on the specific epidemiological characteristics of the hospital or community setting. Full article

Promoting children’s rights in early childhood education is internationally recognised as a priority, yet its practical implementation remains challenging. This qualitative study explored the perceptions of three early childhood educators in northern Portugal regarding children’s rights and how these are reflected in their practices. Guided by an interpretive paradigm, the study sought to understand participants’ beliefs through semi-structured interviews, conducted with full ethical compliance, including informed consent, withdrawal rights, and anonymity. Data were analysed using MAXQDA, through an inductively generated coding system. Findings indicate that educators acknowledge their vital role in upholding children’s rights and in fostering respectful learning environments. However, significant gaps were found in the realisation of the right to participation, with tensions between educators’ stated values and their described practices—particularly regarding children’s involvement in decision-making. A prevailing emphasis on protection often limited children’s autonomy and agency. The study highlights the complexities of translating policy frameworks, such as Portuguese legislation and the UNCRC, into consistent pedagogical action. Despite its small sample size, the study offers valuable insights into the barriers to implementing a rights-based pedagogy and underscores the need for enhanced educator training, active listening practices, and the recognition of play as a fundamental right. This study evaluates media-level filtration behaviour and short-term fuel consumption outcomes for five spin-on lubricating oil filters operated under real driving conditions at high altitude. To improve interpretability, filters are reported using parameter-based identifiers (media descriptors and equivalent circular diameter, ECD) rather than internal codes. Pore-scale morphology was quantified by microscopy and expressed as ECD, and bulk fluid cleanliness was summarised using ISO 4406 codes. Trials were conducted over representative urban and extra-urban routes at altitude; fuel consumption was analysed using ANCOVA. The results indicated clear media-level differences (tighter pore envelopes and cleaner ISO codes, particularly for two OEM units). However, fuel-consumption differences were not statistically significant (ANCOVA, p = 0.29). Accordingly, findings are reported as short-term cleanliness and media characterisation under high-altitude duty rather than durability or efficiency claims. The parameter-based framing clarifies trade-offs across metrics and avoids over-generalisation from brand or part numbers. The work highlights the value of ECD as a comparative pore metric and underscores limitations of microscopy/cleanliness data for inferring engine wear or long-term consumption. Future work will incorporate formal multi-pass testing (ISO 4548-12), direct differential-pressure instrumentation, used-oil viscosity tracking, and wear-metal spectrometry to enable cross-vendor benchmarking and causal interpretation. Findings are presented as short-term cleanliness and media characterisation; no durability claims are made in the absence of direct wear measurements. Full article

Nowadays, Flutter with the Dart programming language has become widely popular in mobile developments, allowing developers to build multi-platform applications using one codebase. An increasing number of companies are adopting these technologies to create scalable and maintainable mobile applications. Despite this increasing relevance, university curricula often lack structured resources for Flutter/Dart, limiting opportunities for students to learn it in academic environments. To address this gap, we previously developed the Flutter Programming Learning Assistance System (FPLAS), which supports self-learning through interactive problems focused on code comprehension through code-based exercises and visual interfaces. However, it was observed that many students completed the exercises without fully understanding even basic concepts, if they already had some knowledge of object-oriented programming (OOP). As a result, they may not be able to design and implement Flutter/Dart codes independently, highlighting a mismatch between the system’s outcomes and intended learning goals. In this paper, we propose a guided self-study approach of integrating documentation, code, visual output, and exercise in FPLAS. Two existing problem types, namely, Grammar Understanding Problems (GUP) and Element Fill-in-Blank Problems (EFP), are combined together with documentation, code, and output into a new format called Integrated Introductory Problems (INTs). For evaluations, we generated 16 INT instances and conducted two rounds of evaluations. The first round with 23 master students in Okayama University, Japan, showed high correct answer rates but low usability ratings. After revising the documentation and the system design, the second round with 25 fourth-year undergraduate students in the same university demonstrated high usability and consistent performances, which confirms the effectiveness of the proposal. This study presents the design and evaluation of AquaSignalNet, a deep learning-based system for recognizing underwater visual commands to enable the autonomous navigation of a Remotely Operated Vehicle (ROV). The system is built on a ResNet50 V2 architecture and trained with a custom dataset, UVSRD, comprising 33,800 labeled images across 12 gesture classes, including directional commands, speed values, and vertical motion instructions. The model was deployed on a Raspberry Pi 4 integrated with a TIVA C microcontroller for real-time motor control, a PID-based depth control loop, and an MPU9250 sensor for orientation tracking. Experiments were conducted in a controlled pool environment using printed signal cards to define two autonomous trajectories. In the first trajectory, the system achieved 90% success, correctly interpreting a mixed sequence of turns, ascents, and speed changes. In the second, more complex trajectory, involving a rectangular inspection loop and multi-layer navigation, the system achieved 85% success, with failures mainly due to misclassification resulting from lighting variability near the water surface. Unlike conventional approaches that rely on QR codes or artificial markers, AquaSignalNet employs markerless visual cues, offering a flexible alternative for underwater inspection, exploration, and logistical operations. The results demonstrate the system’s viability for real-time gesture-based control. Full article

Optimizing Miniscrew Stability: A Finite Element Study of Titanium Screw Insertion Angles

This study aimed to evaluate how different insertion angles of titanium orthodontic miniscrews (30°, 45°, and 90°) influence stress distribution and displacement in surrounding alveolar bone using three-dimensional finite element analysis (FEA), with a focus on biomechanical outcomes at the titanium–bone interface. The 90° insertion angle generated the highest stress in cortical bone (58.2 MPa) but the lowest displacement (0.023 mm), while the 30° angle produced lower stress (36.4 MPa) but greater displacement (0.052 mm). The 45° angle represented a compromise, combining moderate stress (42.7 MPa) and displacement (0.035 mm). This simulation-based study was conducted between January and April 2025 at the Department of Orthodontics, Kocaeli Health and Technology University. A standardized 3D mandibular bone model (2 mm cortical and 13 mm cancellous layers) was constructed, and Ti-6Al-4V miniscrews (1.6 mm × 8 mm) were virtually inserted at 30°, 45°, and 90°. A horizontal orthodontic load of 2 N was applied, and von Mises stress and displacement values were calculated in ANSYS Workbench. Stress patterns were visualized using color-coded maps. The 90° insertion angle generated the highest von Mises stress in cortical bone (50.6 MPa), with a total maximum stress of 58.2 MPa, followed by 45° (42.7 MPa) and 30° (36.4 MPa) insertions (p < 0.001). Stress was predominantly concentrated at the cortical entry point, especially in the 90° model. In terms of displacement, the 90° group exhibited the lowest mean displacement (0.023 ± 0.002 mm), followed by 45° (0.035 ± 0.003 mm) and 30° (0.052 ± 0.004 mm), with statistically significant differences among all groups (p < 0.001). The 45° angle showed a balanced biomechanical profile, combining moderate stress and displacement values, as confirmed by post hoc analysis. From a biomimetics perspective, understanding how insertion angle affects bone response provides insights for designing bio-inspired anchorage systems. By simulating natural stress dissipation, this study demonstrates that insertion angle strongly modulates miniscrew performance. Vertical placement (90°) ensures rigidity but concentrates cortical stress, whereas oblique placement, particularly at 45°, offers a balanced compromise with adequate stability and reduced stress. These results emphasize that beyond material properties, surgical parameters such as insertion angle are critical for clinical success. Full article

Despite the remarkable progress of deep learning in image segmentation, models often struggle with generalization across diverse datasets. This study explores novel input augmentation techniques and ensemble strategies to improve image segmentation performance. We investigate how the Segment Anything Model (SAM) can produce relevant information for model training. We believe that SAM offers a promising source of prior information that can be exploited to improve robustness and accuracy. Building on this, we propose input augmentation techniques that integrate SAM information directly into the images, enhancing the learning process of segmentation models. Each proposed augmentation method comes with its unique advantages; therefore, to leverage the strengths of each approach, we introduce AuxMix, a model trained with a combination of SAM-based augmentation methods. We conduct experiments on different state-of-the-art segmentation models, evaluating the effects of each method independently and within an ensemble framework. The results show that our ensemble strategy, combining complementary information from each augmentation, leads to robust and improved segmentation performance in a large set of datasets. We use only publicly available datasets in our experiments, and all the code developed to reproduce our results is available online on GitHub. Full article

Developing secure and well-structured web applications using Spring Boot presents a significant challenge, as it requires developers to manage multiple layers, employ framework-specific annotations, and ensure authentication, authorization, and compliance with architectural standards. These complexities often lead to errors among students and novice developers. Although current low-code platforms reduce coding effort, they frequently compromise clarity, modularity, and maintainability. This paper introduces XBoot, a lightweight framework that utilizes a straightforward XML-based domain-specific language (DSL) to automatically generate modular and secure Spring Boot applications. By providing concise specifications for entities, services, routes, and user roles, XBoot generates database entities, service classes, controllers, user interface templates, and integrated security rules. Validation rules are directly enforced from the DSL, and built-in Swagger documentation facilitates interactive API testing. The evaluation was conducted in two phases. Initially, XBoot was validated by generating applications for student–course and flight-booking domains, where less than 50 lines of DSL resulted in 950–1350 lines of Java and HTML code, complete with security and documentation. Subsequently, 10 undergraduate students utilized XBoot in practice. All participants successfully generated and deployed applications within 2–20 min (average ≈ 7), compared to 45–120 min for manual implementation. On a 5-point Likert scale, students rated the reinforcement of layered architecture at an average of 4.0. These findings suggest that XBoot effectively eliminates common structural and security errors, reduces boilerplate complexity through concise DSL specifications, and maintains modularity and transparency-limitations often observed in traditional coding and other low-code platforms. Background: Expanding the role of healthcare professionals could improve patient care. Workforce shortages and financial challenges within the healthcare system have led to non-medical prescribing models, such as pharmacist prescribing in several countries. However, in Germany, the prescribing authority remains with medical professionals, leaving pharmacist prescribing unexplored. Objectives: The aim of this study was to assess community pharmacists’ perceptions of the concept of prescribing by pharmacists, to investigate general concerns, and to evaluate the overall readiness and willingness of community pharmacists to take on prescribing responsibilities. Methods: A cross-sectional anonymous online survey of community pharmacists was conducted between August and October 2023. The 22-item questionnaire included demographic characteristics, daily work routines, and statements regarding the concept of prescribing by pharmacists. The data were coded and analyzed using IBM SPSS Statistics version 28.0.1. Results: The key finding was that attitudes toward prescribing by pharmacists were generally very positive, regardless of the pharmacists’ age and the size of the city in which the pharmacy was located. This positive perception was reflected by 82.3% of the participants, indicating support for the concept of prescribing by pharmacists in Germany. Additionally, 81.8% expressed confidence in taking on a prescribing role after completing the necessary qualifications and training, which 85.9% of all participants considered a basic requirement. Conclusions: Most participants expressed strong support for prescribing by pharmacists and indicated openness to its implementation on a certain scale while addressing the importance of further and specialized training. Amid growing environmental challenges associated with self-driving tourism, this study explores destination-level factors beyond the traditional 6A framework that influence tourists’ environmental responsibility behavior (ERB). Using a grounded theory approach supported by expert interviews, this study conducted 20 + 5 (theoretical saturation test) interviews with local government officials, academics and researchers, local tourism industry professionals, and local community representatives. The interview data underwent a three-stage coding process—open, axial, and selective coding. As a result, three additional drivers of ERB were identified: (1) governance capacity for sustainability, (2) green innovation practices, and (3) community-based environmental empathy. Together with the 6A framework, these drivers form a multi-layered, progressive model that explains how destinations shape ERB through three pathways: product and service experience, institutional regulation and technological enablement, and emotional connection as the deepest driver. The study enriches destination behavior theory by integrating tangible, managerial, and cultural mechanisms, offering theoretical advancement and practical strategies for promoting sustainable self-driving tourism. Doctors in Private Practice: A Systematic Review of the Perceived Working Conditions, Psychological Health, and Patient Care

Medical doctors are at risk of poor mental health, linked to their working conditions. However, little distinction is made between private and public practice where working conditions differ. This review examines the relationship between perceived working conditions, psychological health, and patient care among doctors in private practice, considering how differences between private and public practice impact these outcomes and the implications of working across sectors. We conducted a systematic literature review following the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses guidelines. The search encompassed Academic Search Premier, Business Source Premier, PsycInfo, PsycArticles, and Medline. Included studies were coded in line with the Job Demands–Resources model. The initial search identified 309 papers, with 14 being selected for final full-text review. Higher job demands were associated with higher levels of burnout, while social resources, job crafting, and healthy coping mechanisms were linked with lower levels of burnout. Working in private practice was associated with higher demands. Doctors in private practice had more negative perceptions of performance, less satisfactory leadership, and a lack of feedback. However, private practice also offered better work–life balance, more control, and greater reward. Notably, no study was found that examined the implications of dual roles where doctors worked across both sectors, which is common. A clear definition of private practice as well as a more granular understanding of work-related risks posed to private practice and dual roles should be the focus of future research. Full article

Surgical and Radiologic Outcomes Following Pulmonary Lobectomy: A Single-Center Experience

Background: Pulmonary lobectomy remains the gold standard for early-stage non-small cell lung cancer, with the primary goal of complete tumor removal. Postoperative imaging is critical for evaluating recovery and identifying complications, yet systematic descriptions of radiologic patterns after lobectomy are limited. Methods: We conducted a retrospective analysis of 125 patients who underwent pulmonary lobectomy between 2019 and 2024 at a tertiary thoracic surgery center. Preoperative and postoperative imaging findings were coded and compared using a standardized classification system. Modalities included chest radiography, thoracic CT, ultrasound, PET-CT and MRI. Results: Postoperative imaging demonstrated a clear reduction in pathological findings. Emphysema decreased from 29.6% to 21.6%, pleural effusion from 12.8% to 3.2%, atelectasis/pleural thickening from 15.2% to 8.8%, and ground-glass infiltrates from 12.0% to 8.0%. The proportion of patients without abnormalities increased from 18.5% to 24.8%. Chest radiography (92%) and CT (89.6%) were the most frequently employed modalities. Patients treated with VATS lobectomy showed slightly fewer postoperative abnormalities compared with those undergoing open surgery. Conclusions: Pulmonary lobectomy is associated with measurable radiologic improvement, reflecting favorable structural recovery. Routine imaging follow-up, particularly chest radiography, remains essential for early detection of complications and guiding postoperative care. However, the retrospective single-center design and limited generalizability represent important limitations that should be considered when interpreting these findings. Full article

Background/Objectives: People living with neurological conditions are inactive despite widespread literature showing physical activity (PA) is beneficial for this population. To impact long term changes in PA behavior, physical therapists treating individuals with neurological conditions need to provide effective PA promotion in combination with behavior change techniques (BCTs). The purpose of this study is to (1) characterize the use of BCTs during neurorehabilitation, and (2) to gain an understanding of considerations related to PA promotion. Methods: Observations of outpatient physical therapy encounters with subsequent semi-structured interviews were conducted. Observations were transcribed with detailed field notes and analyzed with descriptive analysis and deductive coding. Interviews were analyzed with thematic analysis. Results: Observations indicated that PA promotion in neurorehabilitation practice emphasizes home exercise programs, with less focus on aerobic activity. The most common BCTs used were instruction on how to perform the behavior, behavioral practice and rehearsal, and social support. Primary themes that impacted physical therapist use of BCTS for PA promotion included knowledge, decision processes, perceived role, beliefs, environmental context, and social influences. Conclusions: PA promotion from physical therapists in neurorehabilitation is not targeting activity guidelines and there is uncertainty about using behavior change strategies and PA guidelines for PA promotion.
