Against the backdrop of the growing popularity of blockchain technology, this study investigates blockchain adoption strategies for the fresh food supply chain (FFSC) under a carbon cap-and-trade (CAT) policy. Taking a two-echelon supply chain consisting of a supplier and a retailer as an example, we designed four blockchain adoption modes based on the supplier’s strategy (adopt or not) and the retailer’s strategy (adopt or not). Combining influencing factors such as consumers’ low-carbon preference, consumers’ freshness preference, and carbon trading price (CTP), we established four game-theoretic models. Using backward induction, we derived the equilibrium strategies for the supplier and retailer under different modes and analyzed the impact of key factors on these equilibrium strategies. The analysis yielded four key findings: (1) BB mode (both adopt blockchain) is the optimal adoption strategy for both FFSC parties when carbon prices are high, and consumers exhibit strong dual preferences. It most effectively mitigates the negative price impact of rising carbon prices by synergistically enhancing emission reduction efforts and freshness preservation efforts, thereby increasing overall profits and achieving a Pareto improvement in the benefits for both parties. (2) Consumers’ low-carbon preference and freshness preference exhibit an interaction effect. These two preferences mutually reinforce each other’s incentive effect on FFSC efforts (emission reduction/freshness preservation). Blockchain’s information transparency makes these efforts more perceptible to consumers, forming a synergistic “emission reduction-freshness preservation” cycle that further drives sales and profit growth. (3) The adoption of blockchain by either the supplier or the retailer significantly lowers the cost threshold for the other party to adopt blockchain, thereby increasing their willingness to adopt. (4) CAT and consumer preferences jointly influence the adoption strategies of suppliers and retailers. Additionally, the adoption strategies of FFSC participants are also affected by the other party’s blockchain adoption status. Drawing on the above conclusions, this study provides actionable guidance for suppliers and retailers in selecting optimal blockchain adoption strategies. Full article

This study aims to investigate how tourists articulate their ecotourism experiences through online reviews of coastal Karnataka. As one of India’s most favored domestic destinations since the 1960s, coastal Karnataka is renowned for its scenic shoreline, unique biodiversity, and diverse ecotourism experiences along a 320 km stretch of the Arabian-Sea rim spanning across the Uttara Kannada, Udupi, and Dakshina Kannada districts. Despite the growing popularity of ecotourism and sustainable travel, limited research has examined how tourists share ecotourism concepts via online reviews. Employing content analysis through the Leximancer tool, this study examines 1843 online reviews from 80 eco-resorts and homestays listed on TripAdvisor® to identify emerging themes from interconnected concepts and assess the extent to which ecotourism values are reflected. The findings highlight several themes out of which “place”, “food”, “resort”, and “rooms” were the dominant ones. Notably, this study also revealed minimal references to coastal conservation or sustainability. The analysis offers several theoretical contributions to the ecotourism literature by demonstrating the implication of construal level theory (CLT) and the use of Leximancer in analyzing large-scale travel data. This study also provides meaningful insights for the tourism service providers to use online review data to enrich tourist experiences and outlines actionable strategies for strengthening the visibility of coastal conservation efforts and promote ecotourism advocacy. Traditional information distillation networks using single-scale convolution and simple feature fusion often result in insufficient information extraction and ineffective restoration of high-frequency details. To address this problem, we propose a lightweight image super-resolution reconstruction network based on multi-order information optimization. The core of this network lies in the enhancement and refinement of high-frequency information. Our method operates through two main stages to fully exploit the high-frequency features in images while eliminating redundant information, thereby enhancing the network’s detail restoration capability. In the high-frequency information enhancement stage, we design a self-calibration high-frequency information enhancement block. This block generates calibration weights through self-calibration branches to modulate the response strength of each pixel. It then selectively enhances critical high-frequency information. Additionally, we combine an auxiliary branch and a chunked space optimization strategy to extract local details and adaptively reinforce high-frequency features. In the high-frequency information refinement stage, we propose a multi-scale high-frequency information refinement block. First, multi-scale information is captured through multiplicity sampling to enrich the feature hierarchy. Second, the high-frequency information is further refined using a multi-branch structure incorporating wavelet convolution and band convolution, enabling the extraction of diverse detailed features. Experimental results demonstrate that our network achieves an optimal balance between complexity and performance, outperforming popular lightweight networks in both quantitative metrics and visual quality. Swiftly advancing low-code development platforms (LCDPs) have created a new branch in software development, allowing for the rapid creation of applications with minimal knowledge of coding. However, in spite of the great opportunities gained, problems related to choosing the most appropriate platform from a wide range of alternatives that differ in features, usage scenarios, and performance metrics make it difficult to determine the most suitable solution. The use of the MULTIMOORA method can greatly facilitate the selection process, along with a strong evaluation and weighting system, which has a positive impact on the results. The evaluation system provides ten global criteria with internal sub-criteria of different factors. The list of tested platforms includes the seven most popular ones: Kissflow, Salesforce App Cloud, Zoho Creator, OutSystems, MS Power App, Mendix, and Appian. The results show the genuine value of this method, by accentuating the strengths of the proven platforms and the method itself. This study offers a multifaceted and sustainable approach to platform validation that allows the use of LCDPs for various applications and helps to make rational decisions. Full article

This paper proposes a novel bio-inspired metaheuristic algorithm called the Red-crowned Crane Optimization (RCO) algorithm. This algorithm is developed by mathematically modeling four habits of red-crowned cranes: dispersing for foraging, gathering for roosting, dancing, and escaping from danger. The foraging strategy is used to search unknown areas to ensure the exploration ability, and the roosting behavior prompts cranes to approach better positions, thereby enhancing the exploitation performance. The crane dancing strategy further balances the local and global search capabilities of the algorithm. Additionally, the introduction of the escaping mechanism effectively reduces the possibility of the algorithm falling into local optima. The RCO algorithm is compared with eight popular optimization algorithms on a large number of benchmark functions. The results show that the RCO algorithm can find better solutions for 74% of the CEC-2005 test functions and 50% of the CEC-2022 test functions. This algorithm has a fast convergence speed and high search accuracy on most functions, and it can handle high-dimensional problems. The Wilcoxon signed-rank test results demonstrate the significant superiority of the RCO algorithm over other algorithms. In addition, applications to eight practical engineering problems further demonstrate its ability to find near-optimal solutions. Full article

Background/Objectives: Colorectal surgeons continue to care for an aging cancer population with increasing comorbidities and frailty. Frailty, characterized by a systemic physiologic decline associated with aging, is an increasingly popular focus in surgical outcomes research. This retrospective study investigates how frailty impacts outcomes in the octogenarian and nonagenarian populations undergoing surgical treatment for colon cancer. Methods: Data from the National Surgical Quality Improvement Program (NSQIP) colectomy-targeted variables dataset from 2015 to 2021 were utilized for this analysis, including patients 80 years of age and older. Frailty was assessed using the five-factor modified frailty index (mFI-5). The study examined post-operative outcomes across frailty groups in this population. Results: From 2015–2021, there were 10,671 patients aged 80 years and older who underwent colectomy for colon cancer, of whom 1,259 (11.8%) were 90 years or older and 2,844 (26.7%) were severely frail. Frailty significantly impacted post-operative colectomy outcomes in this population. On univariate analysis, frail patients had higher rates of pneumonia (p = 0.015), unplanned intubation (p = 0.012), stroke (p < 0.001), myocardial infarction (p = 0.011), readmission (p < 0.001), long length of stay (p < 0.001), and mortality (p < 0.001) compared to non-frail patients. On multivariate analysis, severe frailty (mFI-5 of 2 or more) was associated with an increased odds of unplanned intubation (aOR 2.41, 95% CI 1.27–4.59), long length of stay (aOR 1.73, 95% CI 1.44–2.09), readmission (aOR 1.84, 95% CI 1.42–2.39), and mortality (aOR 1.95, 95% CI 1.20–3.15) compared to non-frail patients. Conclusions: Frailty plays a critical role in influencing the outcomes of octogenarians and nonagenarians undergoing colectomy for colon cancer within the NSQIP dataset. Future work should investigate whether addressing frailty prior to surgery in this population can improve patients’ post-operative courses. Full article

The use of weld bond (WB) joints in automotive manufacturing is gaining popularity for joining similar and dissimilar materials. This study investigated the effect of Sikaflex-252 (Sika Australia Pty Ltd, Perth, Australia) adhesive in DP600 similar steel joints and DP600 and AISI 316 stainless steel dissimilar steel joints. An increase in welding current from 7 kA to 10 kA increased the weld diameter and tensile shear strength in the RSW joints and the WB joints. WB joints had bigger weld diameters of 5.39 mm and 4.84 mm, higher tensile shear strengths of 12.3 kN and 6.85 kN, and higher energy absorption before failure of 32.6 J and 24.6 J at 10 kA compared to joints at 7 kA for similar and dissimilar joints, respectively. The use of adhesive increased heat generation at 10 kA welding current, due to the increase in dynamic resistance. At 7 kA welding current, the adhesive could not produce sufficient heat for spot weld development. The use of adhesive narrowed the weldability lobe in dissimilar RSW and WB joints and showed changes in failure mode. In similar RSW joints and WB joints, weldability lobe changes were not observed, and RSW and WB joints had the same fracture mode for the same welding current. WB welds have reduced stress distribution across the weld nugget compared to RSW welds because of the bigger weld diameter of 5.39 mm and lesser sheet bending of 1.13 mm. WB joint failure comprises the adhesive failure at the start and later the spot weld failure, while RSW joint failure is purely due to spot weld failure. Full article

Cilantro (Coriandrum sativum L.) is a popular annual culinary herb grown for its leaves or seeds. With the increase in hydroponic herb production in controlled environments, a need exists for leaf tissue nutrient standards specific to this production system. The objective of this study was to develop comprehensive foliar mineral nutrient interpretation ranges for greenhouse-grown cilantro. Cilantro plants were grown in a hydroponic sand culture system to induce and document nutritional disorders. Plants were supplied with a modified Hoagland’s solution, which was adjusted to individually add or omit one nutrient per treatment while holding all others constant. Deficiency and toxicity symptoms were photographed, after which the plant tissue was collected to determine plant dry weight and critical tissue nutrient concentrations. Nitrogen (N), phosphorus (P), potassium (K), calcium (Ca), magnesium (Mg), sulfur (S), boron (B), iron (Fe), and zinc (Zn) deficiencies, as well as B toxicity, were induced. Deficiencies of copper (Cu), manganese (Mn), and molybdenum (Mo) were not observed during the experiment. Additional foliar tissue analysis data (n = 463) were compiled to create nutrient interpretation ranges for 12 essential elements based on a hybrid meta-analysis Sufficiency Range Approach (SRA). This approach defines ranges for deficient, low, sufficient, high, and excessive values. For each element, the optimal distribution was selected according to the lowest Bayesian Information Criterion (BIC) value. A Normal distribution best represented K and S. A Gamma distribution best represented P, Ca, Mn, and Mo, whereas a Weibull distribution best represented N, Mg, B, Cu, Fe, and Zn. These interpretation ranges, along with descriptions of typical symptomology and critical tissue nutrient concentrations, provide useful tools for both diagnosing nutritional disorders and interpreting foliar nutrient analysis results of greenhouse-grown cilantro. Background: Circus arts are gaining popularity across the globe and lifespan. Despite growing participation rates, there is limited high-quality evidence describing the physical therapy evaluation and management of injury within this population. The purpose of this scoping review was to identify and summarize evidence related to the injury characteristics and management of circus artists. Methods: With a research librarian, computerized searches were developed and performed using online databases (PubMed, CINAHL, Scopus, SPORTDiscus and Cochrane), gray literature and non-medical databases. Two authors independently voted on article inclusion with a third author blinded to previous voting used in case of conflict. Concept mapping identified five primary themes related to circus injuries and physical therapy treatment. Data was extracted from each article based on content relevant to the classification. Results: In total, 1095 titles were retrieved from electronic searches, of which 49 studies were included. Overall, 20 studies related to injury characteristics, 10 to risk factors, 9 to each psychosocial variables and interventions, and 8 to screening. Acrobats with required ground elements were the most commonly injured discipline, particularly at the shoulder, ankle and spine. Intrinsic and extrinsic risk factors were identified and numerous psychosocial and lifestyle contributing factors were reported. Literature guiding treatment is limited. Conclusions: This scoping review mapped and synthesized evidence related to the evaluation and management of circus artist injuries. While injury patterns and characteristics are generally understood, the treatment of this population is poorly described. Clear gaps in screening, injury prevention strategies, and interventions for this group were identified. Full article

Settlement on the Moon will require full exploitation of its resources if such settlements are to be permanent. Such in situ resource utilisation (ISRU) has primarily been focused on accessing water ice at the lunar poles and the use of raw lunar regolith as a compressive building material. Some work has also examined the extraction of metals, but there has been little consideration of the many useful ceramics that can be extracted from the Moon and how they may be fabricated. We introduce a strategy for full lunar industrialisation based on a circular lunar industrial ecology and examine the contribution of ceramics. We review ceramic fabrication methods but focus primarily on 3D printing approaches. The popular direct ink writing method is less suitable for the Moon and other methods require polymers which are scarce on the Moon. This turns out to be crucial, suggesting that full industrialisation of the Moon cannot be completed until the problem of ceramic fabrication is resolved, most likely in conjunction with polymer synthesis from potential carbon sources. Powder metallurgy tool steels, such as Vanadis 4 Extra (1.2210), are increasingly used in cold-work applications due to their superior hardness, wear resistance, and microstructural uniformity. Despite their growing popularity, there is limited data regarding their machinability, especially in milling processes. In this study, experimental milling tests were performed on Vanadis 4 Extra steel using AlCrN-coated carbide tools. A full factorial experimental design (34) was applied to investigate the effects of cutting speed, depth of cut, width of cut, and feed per tooth on cutting forces (Fx, Fy, Fz, Fc), surface roughness parameters (Ra, Rz), and tool wear. Cutting forces were measured using a Kistler dynamometer, and surface roughness was evaluated using a contact profilometer. Regression models were developed and statistically validated. The results indicate that depth of cut had the most significant influence on cutting force, while cutting speed had the greatest impact on surface roughness. Moderate correlation between cutting forces and roughness was observed, particularly under low-load conditions. SEM analysis revealed abrasive wear and chipping of the coating layer. The findings provide insights into the machinability of Vanadis 4 Extra and offer guidelines for optimizing milling parameters to enhance tool life and surface integrity. Full article

Digital twin technology is reshaping modern agriculture. Digital twins are the virtual replicas of real-world farming systems, which are continuously updated with real-time data, and are revolutionizing the monitoring, simulation, and optimization of agricultural processes. The literature on agricultural digital twins is multidisciplinary, growing rapidly, and often fragmented across disciplines, which lacks well-curated documentation. A bibliometric analysis includes thematic content analysis and science mapping, which provides research trends, gaps, thematic landscape, and key contributors in this continuously evolving and emerging field. Therefore, in this study, we conducted a bibliometric review that included collecting bibliometric data via keyword search strategies on popular scientific databases. The data was further screened, processed, analyzed, and visualized using bibliometric tools to map research trends, landscapes, collaborations, and themes. Key findings show that publications have grown exponentially since 2018, with an annual growth rate of 27.2%. The major contributing countries were China, the USA, the Netherlands, Germany, and India. We observed a collaboration network with distinct geographic clusters, with strong intra-European ties and more localized efforts in China and the USA. The analysis identified seven major research theme clusters revolving around precision farming, Internet of Things integration, artificial intelligence, cyber–physical systems, controlled-environment agriculture, sustainability, and food system applications. We observed that core technologies, such as sensors, artificial intelligence, and data analytics, have been extensively explored, while identifying gaps in research areas. The emerging interests include climate resilience, renewable-energy integration, and supply-chain optimization. The observed transition from task-specific tools to integrated, system-level approaches underline the growing need for adaptive, data-driven decision support. By outlining research trends and identifying strategic research gaps, this review offers insights into leveraging digital twins to improve productivity, sustainability, and resilience in global agriculture. Lidar has been extensively used in various applications, such as autonomous driving, robot navigation, and drone obstacle avoidance, due to its advantages of a high resolution, high-ranging accuracy, and strong anti-interference ability. The micro-electro-mechanical systems (MEMS) lidar technology approach has gained popularity due to its miniaturization and semi-solid state. However, the small scanning angle of the MEMS scanning micromirror and the associated radar system cause issues, such as a limited scanning range and low spatial resolution, which hinder the wider use of MEMS lidar. To address the problems caused by the small scanning angle of the MEMS micromirror and the limitations of the current optical system, this study suggests a new MEMS lidar transmitting optical system that offers a wide scanning angle and high spatial resolution. It is based on an array reflector group and a Fresnel lens, which enables the large-angle scanning of the target area while maintaining high spatial resolution. The scanning range is 120° × 60°, the spatial resolution is 0.05° × 0.25°, and the beam-filling ratio reaches 90.63%. Full article

Background/Objectives: The combined techniques of endoscopic sphincterotomy followed by endoscopic papillary balloon dilation (ESBD) and endoscopic sphincterotomy followed by endoscopic papillary large balloon dilation (ESLBD) have gained popularity for the endoscopic treatment of choledocholithiasis. However, the conventional approach to these procedures requires two separate devices, a sphincterotome and a balloon catheter, which can complicate and prolong the procedure. We herein evaluated a novel integrated device combining a sphincterotome and balloon catheter developed to improve the efficiency of ESBD and ESLBD. Methods: This retrospective study compared the clinical outcomes of patients with choledocholithiasis who were treated using conventional sphincterotome and balloon catheters (n = 106) and those who were treated using the integrated device (n = 54). Results: Overall complete stone removal rates (99.1% vs. 100%) and adverse event incidence (12.3% vs. 13.0%) were comparable between the two groups. However, the integrated device significantly reduced total procedure time (40 vs. 27 min, p = 0.01), use of mechanical lithotripter (50.0% vs. 22.2%, p < 0.01), total number of procedures required. Conclusions: Complete stone removal rates and safety were comparable between the two groups. However, the novel integrated device may enhance the efficiency of common bile duct stone removal through ESBD and ESLBD because it eliminates the need to prepare and exchange separate devices. Herbs and spices are a rich source of bioactive compounds that exhibit multidirectional health-promoting effects. Their bioactivity is mainly related to the presence of phenolic acids, flavonoids, carotenoids, essential oils, alkaloids, tannins, saponins and other plant bioactive compounds. The potential of herbs and spices in preventing oxidative stress, inflammation, bacterial infections and metabolic disorders is increasingly highlighted in the scientific literature, making them a valuable addition to functional foods. Confectionery products belong to a group of food products characterised by high consumer acceptance due to their attractive sensory qualities. Unfortunately, despite high popularity, traditional confectionery mainly provides empty calories in the form of simple sugars and saturated fats while lacking valuable nutrients such as vitamins, minerals or bioactive compounds. This review focuses on the composition and bioactive properties of selected herbs and spices, presenting current knowledge on their potential use in the production of functional confectionery products.
