Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

The search for sustainable solutions in recent years for the food packaging industry has intensified, which has led to significant progress in the use of edible foils. These films, usually made from natural ingredients such as proteins, polysaccharides and lipids, offer a promising alternative to conventional packaging materials known for their environmental impact. By integrating edible foils into food packaging, we can not only mitigate the harmful effects of biodegradable materials, but also improve food preservation and safety. Foods Special Issue on New Advances in the Use of Edible Film in Sustainable Food Packaging publishes the latest innovations and applications in edible film technology, highlighting their role in driving sustainability throughout the food supply chain, advances in extraction procedures, analytical techniques, and bioactivity assays. From extending shelf life to reducing food waste, the potential benefits of edible films are vast and multiple, signaling a key shift towards more environmentally conscious packaging solutions and the use of food industry by-products.

Foods Special New Advances in the Use of Edible Film in Sustainable Food Packaging accepts scientific articles on the following topics:

  • eadible biopolymers molecular structures;
  • eadible biopolymers physical chemical properties and functions;
  • biopackaging material science and applications;
  • biopolymeric package systems analysis;
  • eadible biopolymers as active and intelligent packaging;
  • biopolymers with nanoparticles;
  • biopolymer packaging and the environment;
  • regulatory aspects of biopolymeric food packaging.
