Pulmonology

A section of Journal of Clinical Medicine (ISSN 2077-0383).

Section Information

We take our respiratory health and breathing for granted. The human lung is a vital organ that is vulnerable to external threats and injuries. Nothing else matters when you cannot breathe. Pulmonary diseases are a leading cause of morbidity, mortality, and disability in the world. Our lungs are frequently exposed to numerous noxious agents present in the air we breathe, such as particulate matter, biomass fuel, tobacco cigarette smoking, aerosols from electronic cigarettes, heat-not-burn products (IQOS), chemicals, pesticides, and respiratory pathogens. If we have a closer look at the numbers, then at least 2 billion people are exposed globally to the toxic smoke produced by the combustion of biomass fuel, inefficiently burned in poorly ventilated indoor stoves or fireplaces used for cooking or warming. One billion people inhale polluted outdoor air, and another billion are exposed primarily or secondarily to tobacco smoke, with the numbers on a steep upward trajectory. It is imperative for respiratory health to be a top priority. We also need look at the early origins of chronic lung disease with our youth being constantly targeted by big tobacco. There is an expeditious need to bolster research and long-term commitment to respiratory health. To promote respiratory research and dissemination, we sincerely welcome your submissions to Journal of Clinical Medicine (JCM). We welcome all submissions enhancing the understanding of pulmonary diseases and look forward to receiving your manuscripts. JCM is dedicated to all aspects of pulmonary medicine, including the study of healthy and diseased lungs, airways, and sleep medicine or breathing.
