Comments and Suggestions for Authors

This work reports a novel metal dusting approach for two-stage thermo-catalytic decomposition (TCD). It is an interesting topic. Particularly, the way to generate metal catalysts in situ shows a new design and achieves better carbon yield, deposition rates. However, there are many unexpressed language and grammar issues in the manuscript. The quality of the manuscript must be improved before acceptance in Catalysts.

1. There are some confused points about figure 6 from line 223 to 234. What is the basis for distinguishing whether there are two distinct carbons phases about  TGA oxidation of  1stand 2st depositions under 900℃?

2. In Fig. 7, does the Raman spectrum show that there are two distinct carbons phases in the 1ndand 2ndstages? Or do you want to tell there exist two distinct graphitic carbons phases?

3. Does the TCD specially refer to that of methane in general? I suggest the authors to state it clearly.

4. There are many formatting and grammar errors (e.g., Line88-89) in this manuscript. Please recheck and correct them.

5. Most figures need to be formatted consistently. Some details should be added in the figure title, such as the figure 3b.

6. From the description in manuscript, it seems that the yield of carbon catalyzed carbons is higher than that of metal catalyzed carbons. What is the essential difference about carbon catalyzed carbons and metal catalyzed carbons?

7. There is no description of figure 10 in the main text.

8. Both the abstract and conclusion need to be more laconic, focalized and scientific.

Comments and Suggestions for Authors

1- The article must be checked carefully in terms of grammar.

2- Compare the research results with similar articles.

3- It is better to add X-ray diffraction analysis to the article.

4- XPS analysis helps to understand many concepts.

5- Add Elemental mapping (EDS) or X-ray Fluorescence (XRF) analysis to the article.

Comments and Suggestions for Authors

The authors have not answered almost any of my question but the justification are convincing.
