Experimental Investigation of the Static and Dynamic Compression Characteristics of Limestone Based on Its Initial Damage
Round 1
Reviewer 1 Report
This MS presents an experimental study of the static and dynamic compression behavior of limestone with different levels of initial damage. This topic is interesting and important for rock engineering involves limestones. This MS could be acceptable after a minor revision. The following issues need to be addressed in the revision:
1), The definition of initial damage Eq.1 needs to be further discussed, including a comparison of the results with other definitions, e.g., Eq. 15-16 and its implications in the field. In addition, please explain why the square is needed in Eq.1?
2), The presentation is not compact. It is suggested to reduce the figure numbers to only show the key results, thus highlighting the key findings.
3), lots of empirical formulas were used to fit the experimental data, to what extent, these formulas can be used in practice? Did you verify them separately?
4), English writing needs to be largely improved. Many sentences have grammar errors, for example, the first sentence in line 37. 'whatsmore' -> 'what's more' or 'more importantly...
