Round 1

Reviewer 1 Report

In this article, a hybrid power modulator is well presented for RF power amplifiers of 5G New Radio(NR) applications. Two levels switching converter and a broadband and high efficiency linear amplifier are utilized by the proposed hybrid power modulator.

The proposed novelty approach use a method of providing additional zeros to eliminate the poles of the main amplifier in the circuit and indirectly push the pole distribution out of the band width to realize the design, in order to improve bandwidth and circuit stability of the main amplifier. This method  achieves a small signal -3dB bandwidth of 180MHz and a high efficiency of 51% and is presented adequately by the authors.

1.      The authors must compare proposed work with the literature at the same technology (0.180 µm) and operating band.

2.      The comparison table should also have circuit complexity, power requirements, merits and demerits of literature and proposed works. It also needs to be explained further.

3.      These can be a small discussion on how this hybrid modulator different from other modulators in the introduction section as well.

4.      All the figures clarity needs to be improved. Numbers in the figures are not clear.

2) With the continuous development of information, the amount of user information is 26 increasing, and the user's demand for data transmission rate is also increasing, which 27 makes the design of communication systems more and more challenging. With the con28 tinuous maturity of 4G (The 4th Generation Mobile Communication Technology) technol29 ogy, in order to meet people's needs for future communication systems, the research on 30 5G (The 5th Generation Mobile Communication Technology) technology is curr

Improve the English of the introduction. The introduction must be written coherently.

3) 5G Mobile communication license frequencies are 28 and 38 GHz. Justify the amplifies designed, that, is it compatible with these higher frequencies?

4) In the communication system based on envelope tracking technology, there will be a 82 mismatch between the envelope and the phase due to delay, which reduces EVM (error 83 vector magnitude). So the increasing the bandwidth of hybrid power modulator is also 84 important. In this article, an efficiency-86% hybrid power modulator for 5G New Radio 85 (NR) applications is proposed.

What will be the effect of changing (increasing or decreasing) the bandwidth on other parameters of the system i.e. gain, diversity, return loss etc.

5)Add information of the simulator, software used for the whole process. Add information of the prototyping of the amplifier.

Reviewer 5 Report

This paper provides a high efficiency hybrid power modulator for 5G NR applications, which is interesting. There are some little problems should be revised:

1.     The first sentence of the abstract is confusing, the hybrid power modulator was presented before? I think the authors did not mean that.

2.     There are many gramma errors, e.g., The third sentence of the abstract “for narrowband or broadband signal applications, in order to further improve the efficiency of the circuit the power supply of the two levels switching converter by optimized is 4.5V.Please review the whole manuscript carefully and correct all the gramma errors.

3.     The font size in the figures is too small, please increase the font size to same with the content.

4. As known, the switching speed is a very important index in the ET for broadband RFPAs. So, what about the switching speed of the proposed modulator? If the switching speed can be provided in the manuscript will be better.
