Enhancement of the Magnetic Properties in Si4+-Li+-Substituted M-Type Hexaferrites for Permanent Magnets
Round 1
Reviewer 1 Report
Dear Editor,
The authors presented their research on the magnetic properties of M-type hexaferrites co-substituted by Si and (Li+, Mg2+, K+). The studies are interesting because substitution is by cations with charge different from 3+. I have some remarks and questions.
1. The title should be changed according to the investigated substitution.
2. Page 2, line 83-86. Please, give references.
3. Page 7, line 223-225. Please, give references.
4. Page 8, How was the sintered samples' density presented in Table 2. measured?
5. Please, provide information on the synthesis procedure of the samples with additives in the Introduction and Materials and Methods sections.
6. What is the reason to give information on the results for samples with additives?
7. Please, present data for phase analysis and microstructure of samples with additives. Why is the synthesis temperature lower than in the case without additives?
8. Please, pay particular attention to the formatting requirements for figure and table titles and captions and your references list.

In this study, the authors investigate the improving properties of SrFe12O19 M-type hexaferrites to fabricate hard magnets by substituting with Si and Mg, K, Li. It is well written and appropriate for an Applied Sciences journal.
However, some dependences of the parameters on the level of substitution are
not consistent, so for comparison it is necessary to specify the uncertainties
of the parameters: lattice constant a, c, cell volume, especially since they
are calculated using Eq. (2) and only two XRD lines. The same data from the XRD
Rietveld refinement should also be reported. Mill characteristics and type and jar size should be listed in the Materials
and Methods section.
Also
Page 7, line 209 “Magmetic …” change to “Magnetic …”
Page 10, line 297 “A fine microstructure could be obtained…” not informative, what is a fine microstructure ? It is below 1 micrometer?
uninformative, what is fine microstructure? Is it when sizes are less than 1 micrometer?

After the revision, the authors addressed all my questions and made the necessary changes to the manuscript. This work is interesting and relevant, and it has been improved significantly. Therefore, I recommend publication of the manuscript in Applied Sciences.
