Reviewer 1 Report

Comments and Suggestions for Authors

The authors proposed an interesting antenna for typhoon detection. While the paper is interesting, this reviewer has the following comments that should be addressed prior to possible publication.

1. Please provide the measurement data. If you haven't fabricated this antenna, please provide reasons what are the challenges in the fabrication and measurement that prevent you to do so.

2. Please make a comparison with other state of the arts, and provide pros and cons of your design.

3. Please elaborate more on the novelty aspect of your work (Perhaps you can write it in a more clear and understandable way).

Comments and Suggestions for Authors

This manuscript proposes “Design of Typhoon Detection Downcast Device Based on Four-Arm Helical Antenna Structure”. This is an interesting topic for Applied Sciences readers, The work is interesting but I have several concerns, detailed below:

1.       In the introduction section, the reference [2] is repeated twice consecutively in the same paragraph. please mention this reference only once.

2.       To ensure coherence throughout the document, please use only “Figure” or “Fig.” in the main text, instead of alternating between “Fig.” and “Figure”. For example, on page 3 you refer to figure 2 in line 94 as “Figure 2” and in line 100 as “Fig. 2”.

3.       In the first paragraph in section “2.2. Structure of a four-armed helical antenna”, you should mention reference [14] instead of [15].

4.       Some spaces are missing before the units, for example in section 3.1 :  " 2.5dB " should be "2.5 dB, " 2 8dB " should be "28 dB, " 403MHz " should be "403 MHz…

5.       Antenna performance is not only limited to gain, VSWR and reflection coefficient, as the authors have proposed a four-element structure, the authors must present the mutual coupling between the antenna elements, which is measured by the ECC “Envelope-Correlation Coefficient”. Also the axial ratio, as the authors present a circularly polarized antenna.

6.       Only simulation results have been presented which should be validated through experimental results or by comparing with published results otherwise don’t have any meaning.
