Round 1

Reviewer 1 Report

In this review Su at al., have summarized preparation methods of 2D transition metal dichalcogenides and the latest progress in this field. Various fabrication methods including exfoliation, CVD, PLD etc were discussed in detail. A discussion on the properties of new multilayers materials were also included. The review is comprehensive and deserves a consideration for publication. I feel that this review is more suitable for 'Materials' than 'Electronics', as the discussion has a focus on materials engineering. However, I recommend publication of this work without any further modifications

Author Response

Thanks for your suggestion. In this review, we not only dicussed the fabrication of 2D multilayered TMDCs-based vdW heterostructures, but also provided the novel properties of these vdW heterostructures, which ensure the heterostructures suitable for optoelectronic applications. Meanwhile, this review is submitted to the special issue of "Two-Dimensional Materials for Nanoelectronics and Optoelectronics". In this regard, we think this review is ideally suitable for publication in the journal of "Electronics" for such special issue.

Comments:

This paper reviewed the recent progresses in fabrication and physical properties of 2D TMDCs based multilayered vertical heterostructures. The four common preparation methods of 2D TMDC based vdWs HSs are stated. This work especially summarized the latest progress in HSs-related novel physical phenomena like the interlayer excitons, long photocarrier lifetime and improved photoelectrochemical catalysis etc. This review is useful to the 2D materials and devices community. I suggest to publish after some changes.

1.       In the Abstract and Conclusion sections, the author mentioned “first” twice. I don’t think this work is the first one to summarize this field. Please carefully deal with such aggressive description, unless the authors are indeed sure about it.

2.       The authors should further polish the language, to avoid any grammar mistake.

3.       Some TMD-based vdW heterostructures are useful to this work, both theoretically and experimentally. The authors may properly cite to strength the work.
