Round 1

Reviewer 1 Report

peak load shifting control strategy for load balancing is not a new topic, however the authors brought the strategy for home hotels cluster which is a new thing. Combining the benefits of phase change thermal storage technology with the load characteristics of rural house hotels, a novel phase change energy storage load regulation system for rural home hotel cluster is presented.

To improve the readability and its quality, the authors should add a methodology and continued with a results and discussion section. So far the structure are not clear yet. It is strongly recommended for the manuscript to be revised carefully. For more suggestion in detail, please refer to the file, attached.

Comments

This study proposed the cluster regulation of power consumption peak load shifting system. The topic of this research is very interesting I would suggest the publication of this article if the following minor issues are addressed.

-          In the introduction, more recent works should be added. “Thermal energy storage technology [9] is using thermal storage materials.”

Authors may include the closely related works such as:

-       Nidhal Ben Khedher, Rashad A. Bantan, Lioua Kolsi, Mohamed Omri, Performance investigation of a vertically configured LHTES via the combination of nano-enhanced PCM and fins: experimental and numerical approaches, International Communications in Heat and Mass Transfer,Volume 137, 2022, 106246, ISSN 0735-1933, https://doi.org/10.1016/j.icheatmasstransfer.2022.106246

-       Al-Najjar, H.M.T.; Mahdi, J.M.; Bokov, D.O.; Khedher, N.B.; Alshammari, N.K.; Catalan Opulencia, M.J.; Fagiry, M.A.; Yaïci, W.; Talebizadehsardari, P. Improving the Melting Duration of a PV/PCM System Integrated with Different Metal Foam Configurations for Thermal Energy Management. Nanomaterials 2022, 12, 423. https://doi.org/10.3390/nano12030423

- Line 218, “were defied as heating months” please revise this sentence by replace defied by defined. Please revise all spelling mistakes in the text

- Line 491, “the sensible temperature rise value of the PCM designed for thermal storage was 6 K.” more details should be given here. How 6K is computed and both latent heat and sensible should be detailed. As well assumption that no heat losses with the surrounding should be mentioned.

- The volume of used PCM is 50 m3 is very high and economic study should be carefully elaborated since the cost of the PCM is very high

- In figure 10, load variation of users a and b are identical please double check these figures

- The thermal storage solution proposed here will overcome the peak load of air conditioning. Please specify for figure 10 the represented shifted loads are for air conditioning or the overall load

Thank you for submitting your paper “Peak Load Shifting Control for Rural Home Hotels Cluster Based on Power Load Characteristic Analysis” to the Journal of Processes.

This paper focuses on the contradiction between the rapid development of rural home hotels and the difficulty of rural power grid expansion. The characteristics of electricity load of rural home hotels were analyzed, and the different electricity habits of villagers and visitors and the distribution characteristics of rural home hotels buildings were studied.

The article is well written and well structured as a scientific text; the literature review is comprehensive and up to date. However, several issues need to be addressed properly before the paper is considered for publication.

The introduction is too long, it can be split into more sub-sections. For example, it can be added a section dedicated to the literature overview. At the end of the introduction add the real contribution of this study, compared to those already existing in the literature and the innovation presented.

Other studies can be added such as:

https://doi.org/10.3390/en10050658

https://doi.org/10.1016/j.egyr.2022.05.082

Tables 1 and 2 can be combined.

Between two subsequent paragraphs add a small description.

A paragraph describing the methodology followed in the study is missing. In addition, a flow chart or a summary indication of the various steps in the study could be included.

It can be useful to add the table of nomenclature with all parameters used.

Please improve the comments on all figures.

Figure captions should be more complete and detailed. At present they are too summary.

If there are multiple images in a figure, it might be helpful to indicate them with the letters of the alphabet and then explain their contents in detail in the caption (for example Figure 1 and 2).

I suggest implementing the discussion of the results.

A central point is definitely related to strengthening the real innovation of the study. The novelty/originality shall be justified by highlighting that the manuscript contains sufficient contributions to the new body of knowledge. The knowledge gap needs to be clearly addressed in the abstract, introduction and conclusion.
