Cover Story: The clinical management of patients with atrophic–erosive lesions of oral lichen planus is complex. In these situations, the first therapeutic choice is usually topical corticosteroids, which are not exempt from side effects and, moreover, patients develop tolerance to them over time. In this sense, photobiomodulation represents an alternative that, according to some clinical trials, can have a similar effect to that of corticosteroids with fewer side effects. For this reason, we decided to carry out this systematic review with the aim of knowing the effects of photobiomodulation on the symptomatic lesions of oral lichen planus, in which we have obtained relevant results in favor of this technique and that position it as an effective tool in the therapy of the disease.
