Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Aerobic life has generated various challenges for organisms based on the generation of reactive oxygen and nitrogen species (RONS), which can damage various molecules and, consequently, cell functions. A wide variety of abiotic factors, including salinity, temperature, and a large number of toxic compounds, can alter the balance between the concentrations of antioxidants and pro-oxidants, which is a relevant problem not only for the management of aquatic ecosystems but also for productive activities such as aquaculture. The aim of this Special Issue is to gather and disseminate the latest research and advancements related to the assessment of oxidative stress and use of antioxidant biomarkers in aquatic organisms, including fish, crustaceans, mollusks, amphibians, algae, and plants. Several topics receive special emphasis, including new techniques and paradigms related to environmental pollution in the context of climate change. Other relevant topics include the use of antioxidant supplements in productive activities, such as aquaculture not only in the modulation of the antioxidant and oxidative damage responses of aquatic organisms, but also its influence on the energetic, growth, and reproductive status. Studies on the advancement of knowledge that is not always considered in studies dealing with aquatic organisms will include hormetic responses, mechanistic analysis using molecular docking and dynamics, and meta-analyses.

The main objective of this Special Issue is to publish cutting-edge research and knowledge to serve as a reference for both researchers and policymakers working toward the protection and sustainable management of aquatic ecosystems and productive activities such as aquaculture.
