Dear Colleagues,
This Special Issue is dedicated to advancing the understanding of artificial consciousness through the DIKWP model, which integrates Data, Information, Knowledge, Wisdom, and Purpose (DIKWP). We invite contributions that either apply, critique, or expand upon this model to explore the possibilities and challenges of artificial consciousness across multiple disciplines, including artificial intelligence, cognitive science, neuroscience, and philosophy.
Topics of Interest
Contributions to this Special Issue may include, but are not limited to, the following topics:
Theoretical Foundations of DIKWP in Artificial Consciousness:
- Detailed theoretical explorations of how the DIKWP model can be applied to artificial consciousness.
- Comparative analyses with other models of artificial consciousness, such as computational theories, emergentist approaches, etc.
Empirical and Simulation Studies using DIKWP:
- Empirical research or simulations that utilize the DIKWP framework to create or understand artificial consciousness.
- Case studies showcasing the application of DIKWP in designing conscious AI systems.
Technological Implementations of DIKWP:
- Innovative AI technologies developed based on the DIKWP model.

Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. Applied Sciences is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
